Gammelbua Restaurant: Reine, Lofoten Isl., Norway: Gammelbua Restaurant

by call_me_rhia

Gammelbua is THE restaurant in the Lofoten islands - the only place where one can find "fine" local specialities, which means that there's great food to be found everywhere, but this restaurant specialises only in fine traditional food. It's located in a 200 year old fisherman's rorbu. Inside there are two dining rooms with fireplace, one of which hosts traditional music sessions on weekends. It's a place where both tourists and locals eat and drink (there's a full liquor license) in a merry informal atmosphere. Highly recommended are the seafood dishes: just yummy. Rumours have it that sometimes you can taste the very local speciality of fried cod tongues - there were none when I went there, though I'm surely not broken-heated about it.

VertsHuset Skarven: Tromso, Norway: excellent seafood

by call_me_rhia

It's a very popular restaurant among local people, youth especially. it's has a nice terrace on the Brygge promenade, in the oldest area of town, and it's always packed (although it's huge), so it's definitely a good idea to book ahead. Not my favourite but some curiosities... it's up to you if you to try them or not: seal-lasagne, seagull eggs, seaweed and shellfish soup and a lot more.. whale steaks, too.

Professor Molchanov: Floating restaurant

by tini58de

When travelling on the Professor Molchanov we had all meals on board.Breakfast was buffet style with cereals, rolls, cheese, meat and saussages, eggs, coffee, tea and juices. For lunch and dinner we had the most delicious meals, usually with a starter, a main meal and dessert. The two young Norwegian cooks did a fantastic job - there was not one meal that I would have wanted to miss! One evening we had an outdoor barbeque on deck - boy, was that a fantastic adventure: we had barbecued meats and different salads to choose from and hot spiced wine and other beverages! Afterwards there was music and dance - a truly memorable evening!

Arctic Acres Inn: Coldfoot, Alaska

by call_me_rhia

To describe the "restaurant" would be to describe the truckstop... it's your average trucker restaurant, with the added bonus that it's the only one above the arctic circle - so you don't really have much of a choice. I stopped for breakfast, and it was delicious.... and high on calories... waffles drenched in maple-syrup, rashers, gready eggs... Everything unhealthy (you name it) is served but... mhh it really tasted delicious!!!

When cruising in Spitzbergen,...

by globetrott

When cruising in Spitzbergen, make sure you get a nice diningroom-steward...Well, I recommend Michael Globetrott, seen here on Lido-deck during a small break during the afternoon-tea-service .Dressed like this you may stay on deck for a few minutes only without getting a severe cold Fresh seafood of course - and for your cocktails we served icecubes made from natural artic icebergs, cut into small pieces...

Inuvik, NWT, Canada: Peppermill Restaurant

by call_me_rhia

The Peppermill Restaurant is rumoured to be the best restaurant in town, although you wound not think so - knowing the restaurant is inside a motor inn. Anyway it's true: food is delicious and there's a great selection of northen delicacies. I especially recommend the northern platter: musk-ox, caribou and arctic char! Simply delicious - especially the musk-ox. Local beer would be delicious, if it weren't served cold (american style, basically)

by lukeduke

The best restaurant is the Huset. it is ranked the second best restaurant of Norway! A Must: The arctic buffet, with all types of fish, seal and whale (if you can accept that).
