Lofoten Islands: hiking
This is a short hike (about 3-4 hours) from Stamsund to the top of Skifjell and back. The difficulty lies in finding the trailhead (ask for PRECISE directions since it's not signposted)- when you find it, you have overcome your major difficulty. The path takes you first around a nice little lake and then reaches a ski-lift (hence the name skifjell). From there you don't need a trail anymore: there is one, but it keeps disappearing: just follow the ski-lift. From where this ends you only have to keep waling up until you reach the highest point: views are simply superb! You can see the sea from a 360° angle - and what a sea: it has all the hues of greens and blues that you can imagine - very tropical, yet above the Arctic Circle. You can also admire the surrounding mountains, which are all very dramatic, steep and rocky. hiking boots and some water. a map is not needed but ask someone to...
