Day 11: Welcome to the Arctic!

by tini58de

June 8, 2005Another day at sea, cloudy, lazy....In the morning we had another lecture, after lunch we got a tour through the engine room and around 4 p.m. things became real exciting: we saw and hit the first ice floes. Nothing much could keep us inside, almost everybody was outside or on the bridge! At first there was just one ice floe, then there were dozens. All of a sudden we saw a seal on one of them, then a couple more and then actually hundreds of seals - spectacular!!!After dinner I spent about 2 hours outside again and the most spectacular sight was the first bear footprints on one of the ice flows. It gave me shivers to see that!!!
