Pashtunwali

by canuckmike

Pashtunwali is a pre-Islamic code that the locals tend to honor more than Islam as it has been around I heard for 5,000 years. It's standard is focused on honor and shame and places a high value on the following.Bravery: They like to be in offensive roles and not defensive ones during combat.Hospitality: Giving shelter and sanctuary is a social obligation bringing honor to the host.Solidarity: Loyalty to family, tribes and so on.Territorialism: Willing to defend tribal and personal property.Revenge: This is the one I am confused on. I heard about it both positively and negatively. There are more teachings about love, self respect, history and so on. Another thing is not to tell a Pashtun he is wrong i.e. he said go left at the intersection when you were supposed to go right. It is just considered a slight.
