This is a really silly thing, but one of my funniest memories of Chittagong was a particularly large cow that used to sit in front of Chittagong's one and only ATM machine. I was always wanting to get some money, like everyone else in the town. However, I am sure that the ATM was never used, as it was the favourite resting place for one of the many cows that live on the streets. I was always reminded of a Far Side cartoon. I would strongly recommend that you use the normal bank, as there are plenty around, and the staff are more friendly than the cow who lives in front of the ATM.

Ship Breaking

One of the most amazing things to see not far from Chittagong is the ship breaking industry at work. When big ships are old, they are sent to Bangladesh, and the captain runs the boat into the beach at full speed. Then hundreds of people will physically break the ship apart over a period of six months or so (I am told). It is quite incredible (and a little spooky) to see - heaps of huge ships on the beaches being broken down - and not something you can forget easily.
