At a distance of 2.2km to the north of Shalvan Vihar is to be seen anther monastery, measuring 190.5m a side, locally called Ananda Vihar. The general plan, it corresponds well with period I of Sri Bhava Deva Mahavihara. The Calcutta Royal Asitic Society Copper Plate Grant of Bhava Deva is believed to have been collected from its srroundings. An exquisitely beautiful seated Avalokitesvara from Ananda Vihar.

Shalvan Vihar (Monestery of Shalvan Forest) was the royal palace for the early Buddhist Students. Students come from verious place for their religious learning and for meditation in the quite place inside a barren forest. They used to stay in the dormetory/cells around the temple. The place is build 1200 yrs back by King Bhava Deva. Built on a 167.6m sq ground, the monastery has shown marks of six buiding-rebuilding periods. It is composed of four rows of residential cells, a courtyard containing several outhouses and a centrally placed north-facing temple. Each row, of its residential cells, was erected abutting its perimeter wall in each wing. In all there are 115 cells. uthouses demonstrating the idea of chaples, votive stupas (statue of gods), abbot's office, kitchen and dining hall.
