The plains of Kunda Ghat

by janchan

The vast plains around Nasirnagar (the 'Kunda Ghat') in Brahmanbaria region, flooded for most of the year, during the dry season (October-April) become a huge and fertile land... People here work hard the whole day... all by hands or just with the help of animals...In the picture... a fisherman with his handmade fishnet...

try to go to rural areas and spend few days with simple villagers there; lucky if u can manage it during some of festivals as Bengali New year or Vaysakh day...also - try famous bengali sweets made of pure cow milk such as mishti doy (best in Bogura) or rosh malay (best in Comilla) ! hard to choose any particular...all memories are fondest, although had many not pleasant as well.perhaps main fondest memory: live with bangladeshis, among them, bieng able to share their simple shelter and food, joy and pride of sweet bengali language and ... their love to Shonar Bangla. if u can manage to taste these - then u'll understand !

INDIGENOUS HILLTRIBES IN BANGLADESH

by saidur_khan

If you travelling through Bangladesh you must visit to Chittagong hill tracts. Situated in the far southeastern corner of Bangladesh, bordering Myanmar (Burma) the Chittagong Hill tracts are home to over a half a million indigenous peoples of 14 unique tribes. Much of the traditional lifestyle is still preserved - tribal kings, village headmen and a self-sustaining, natural lifestyle. All in a rich, still pristine foothill ecological environment. This region has only recently become accessible - with the signing of an internationally acclaimed accord between the indigenous people and the government. Truly an area with adventures and experiences to treasure. It's the best Bangladesh has on offer. The Life of the tribal people is extremely fascinating. Majority of them are Buddhists and the rest are Hindus, Christians and Animists. Despite the bondage of religion, elements of primitiveness...

The trip on the river was great. Amazin to see the how much people and life there is along the riverbanks. Bangladesh is a very crowded country, and very poor. The people there are very friendly and eager to get in contact with you. The trip on the river, meeting lots of nice people.

Take a ride in a rickshaw.

by BorderHopper

The chaos. Bangladesh is unlike anywhere I've ever been. India comes close but even in India I feel more at ease and there are plenty comforts of home to be found in India....I can't say the same about Bangladesh. They call Dhaka the 'City of Rickshaws' and it literally is a city full of human powered, 3 wheel bicycles hired out by the Dhaka's inhabitants to get them from point A to point B. These unique taxis come in colors representing all shades of the rainbow and some rickshaw drivers have even included beautiful had painted murals depicting anything from the Space Shuttle to an elephant, or they've just adorned them with beautiful patterns & designs. You will see similar paintings on the back of the motored pedi-cabs (that is if you can see through the cloud of pollutants spewing from the tailpipe).

Study the location of Bangladesh. As you can see, it is very much a large river delta, with two of the biggest rivers in the world, the Bhramaputra and the Ganges joining together to form a mighty flow of water.

Visit the old town of Dhaka, and see the real streetlife of this huge city. Guaranteed not to meet other tourists. River cruise to the 'Sundarbans' - the world's largest mangrove jungle area, and home of the Royal Bengal Tiger.

The artwork on the babytaxis is spectacular...Don't go to Bangladesh unless you like chaotic unpaved streets and lots of people. Cairo is good preparation. As is usual in crowded, poor cities, the people are the real jewels.
