While there is a lot of Indian influence all through Bhutan, this is one of the few restaurants in town to specialize exclusively on the cuisine of India. It is a richly appointed place, located in the Bhutan Observer building, above Hotel Taj Tashi. The cuisine is a wide variety, some standards of Indian fare while others which I have not seen before. For large groups you can serve yourself from the buffet, while the attentive staff will keep you stocked with drinks.

The Bhutan kitchen is one of the go-to restaurants in Thimphu, dealing out traditional Bhutanese cuisine for locals and tourists alike. The decor of the restaurant is simple, spacious, with many low tables and cushions, allowing you to sit on the floor. To drink with your meal, you may sample the local beer (Red Panda, an unfiltered weisen beer), whiskey (K/5 is the preferred brand), even arra (distilled liquor from grain).
The main attraction is the food. A variety of dishes for your consumption, from fried chicken to momos to beef simmered in chiles and spices. Of course, it all comes with a hearty helping of either red or white rice, as well as the ubiquitous side dish ema datshi (cheese and chiles). Usually it is served buffet-style, though you can have some brought to your table if your party prefers. Prices for the dishes start around Nu 100-300 each.
Overall, it is a nice place to have dinner, just a minute's walk from the central square downtown of Thimphu, where you can experience authentic cuisine in a relaxing, fun environment.

We had our first lunch in Thimphu here. It is at the second floor of a building and you can see the famous pointsman, the only police officer controlling the traffic (!) in whole Bhutan from the windows. This café is at the corner of the crossroads. We were a group of 30 people, so all the place was ours that day. An open buffet was ready and offering lots of delicacies. I tasted almost all of them and also tried a Bhutan beer. All were delicious. I don’t remember all the meal we had but there were several rice and vegetable dishes.
Favorite Dish: Almost all

Bhutanese food is spicy (and that means chilli and lots of it!!!) So beware if you have a delicate palate or stomach! Best to ask for a milder version of the dish or stick to stuff that you can understand like some of Bhutan's excellent cheese based dishes.
Favorite Dish: Dried Yak meat - was tough as hell but surely worth it!

Favorite Dish: Sample the local country-brewed licquor, or arrakh here. It's slightly milder than Chhang or Tibetan beer. However, it has a funny after-taste that promised a heady evening.
