It is already very expensive to go to Bhutan, but once there they charge everything 3 or 4 times what they charge for homeland people...it is annoying.
I was charged 3 times the regular price for a coke.
Unique Suggestions: Talk to whomever is charging above price and sometimes he will put the price down.

Yes it is possible to travel overland by road.Yes visa is require and it is very important and you will not be allowed to travel withiout proper document.
Yes it is absolutely true to pay USD$200 per day and for voisa only tour operator can get you for that.
Yes there is budget hotel in Bhutan a lots.

There are few tourists in Bhutan and I cant say I came in contact with something I could call a 'tourist trap'. Even at a shop for tourists, the 'Handicrafts Emporium' it was a relaxing atmosphere were they sold alot of interesting items.

I would say that besides weavering the itens to sell in Bhutan are made in India...it doesen´t worth it.
