Pasar Gadong: Don't miss the $1 food stalls

by brunei77

The ambience is an open night market at parking lot with tents for stalls where you take away food or you may eat it on the spot but no sittings or tables . Brunei food are the cheapest and sample local staples too.visit it at the Gadong district night market, most food cost Brunei one dollar B$1includes rice , a piece of chicken, a local sauce, etc. Burgers with salads (shredded carrots & cucumbers) and homemade beef, chicken or lamb meat cost only B$2..Lots of restaurants buffets cost B$6 per person

PASAR MALAM

by ancient_traveler

Nasi katok, a simple combination of rice and curried beef or chicken, which can be quite spicy. It's relatively inexpensive when compared to other food that you can buy, for example local food such as chicken rice. However, it is not a healthy option, with insufficient vegetables and too much fat.Ambuyat, a culinary experience unique to Borneo. It is a starchy and gooey paste made from sago that can be dipped into a savoury sauce.

Fratini's: It's on the waterfront

by mccrorj

It was open after 6pm. Unfortunately that was the main selling point. The food was okay and a mix of italian, which is clearly the style of the place, and also local food. All of the waiters are phillipino, because the locals won't work for the meagre wages apparently. All of them very pleasant but very keen to sell you a trip on the river whivch we finally agreed to after our seconf visit. The prices are high compared to Sabah and Sarawak and the food bares no comparison but it wasn't unpleasant. My daughter had lasagne which was okay and I had a noodle dish which would have been okay if I hadn't just come from Sabah and Sarawak where I could eat the same type of meal on every street corner for a tenth of the price.

The Mall Food Court: Choices from across the region

by TangoTravel

There are a number of restaurants in Gadong, many of which are mentioned in the guidebooks. The night I visited each one was deserted. The only place where you could watch locals and sample the local fare was the food court localed in The Mall. There is a huge choice of cuisines from the south east asia region and of the dishes I sampled the food was excellent.

food stalls: With your fingers, please !

by kokoryko

The best local food is there! For very affordable prices. My preferred is located near the Sheraton in a small park, at the crossing of Jalan Tasek and Jalan Stoney. All sorts of rice, mie, and fried or grilled stuffs; lots of choice and very fresh fruit juices to drink while you eat, looking at the real local people. Try the grilled chicken and nasi lemak (coconut rice) at stall 20. 2 to 5 US$.At stall 14, a nice young lady makes super sate ayam; may be I fell in love with the lady and the food in the same time ! all sorts of rice and noodles.

Aneka Rasa: Barbecue on riverside

by kokoryko

Located in the Kiulap shopping center; wonderful barbecued fishes (Kakap merah, red snapper) with spicy sambal sauce. With a fresh guava juice, you need nothing else. 10-15 Brunei $.Tables outside at the shore of a small river. For a nice evening. Grilled red snapper with spicy sambal

Nyonya café: watch around

by kokoryko

Located in the western building of the Yayasan shopping centre; try the buffet, outside, looking at the shoppers or people just sitting down for their lunch; oriental buffet for 5US$, with a friendly but cumbersome staff. Other dishes need a long time before getting on your table. Nasi lemak

Hau Hua Chinese restaurant: local chinese

by kokoryko

Jalan Sultan; many people working in the nearby offices take lunch there; the menu “card” contains about 30 pages; plenty of choice; service rather quick. Food is not impressive but interesting Chinese soups. The waitresses are friendly and wear mini-skirts, which is a good surprise in Brunei! 5 to 10 US$. Chinese soups
