Boat rid to the Sultan's residence

by Emile72

From the harbour, there a various guys waiting to tranport you to the Sultan's home. It costs about 5-10USD. You get a nice boat trip over the river, chance to see some nose monkey as well. From the "harbour" close to the sultan's palace, you can take a walk along the promenade and take a closer look at the sultan's palace. See pic.

River Ride

by mccrorj

It's about the only thing to do after a visit to the mosque and a wander around the main shopping area. You are indeed bombarded by a whole host of water taxi's if you try and have a quiet seat by the waterfront. The problem we are warned is that these lads will use language problems to try and overcharge you as soon as you are out on the water. We alternatively visited the Italian restaurant who organised a 45 minute trip taking in all of the sites with an english speaking boatman. To be honest I've been on more exciting river cruises and after anout 30 mins of racing about it has a rahter samey feel about it. I suspect if you were in the city and didn't do it you feel as if you had missed out.

The home of the sultan

by jeep2105

This is not the most amazing sight you will ever see, but almost a must if you visit Brunei. Since the sultan is the righest man in the world it is quite interesting to see how he lives. Well, there's not a lot to see, the best view is from the water (if you hire a boat man) and on land from the nearby park. If you are lucky enough to visit during the ramadan you can actually enter the house which is bound to be very very interesting indeed. The park where you have a view of the house is actually quite nice and relaxing and I even spotted a huge lizard.

Kampung Ayer water village

by jeep2105

This area is quite shockingly where most Bruneians live. It's shocking since the country is known for its wealth and the area seems horribly poor. Walking around on the neverending maze of bridges built over the water sometimes feels like walking into someone's home. It's definitely an experiance worth while since it shows the other side of Brunei. Walking on the bridges is a good way to see it since they take you almost anywhere though a private boat ride will give you an even better view. The boatride usually costs 20 brunei dollars and you can find someone to take you by walking to the end of a long pier that is built out of on side of the village (close to the Omar Sharif mosque).

The impressive Omar Sharif mosque

by jeep2105

The main thing to see for almost anyone visiting Brunei is this mosque. It is actually very impressive, perfectly clean and shiny. The grounds around are beautiful as well and you do feel like you've stepped into the middle east suddenly. I would recommend going inside the mosque though I didn't actually do it myself (hint to the rest of you: remember to forget the heat and dress appropriately the day you wish to visit!)

what to do at night in the city....

by Chellenz

Enjoy good food by the water some nice restaurants down there with a view of the boats wizzing around on the water. Go for a ride on the boat around the floating village this was fun although the driver to a liking to me and kept asking if I would like to stay at his house( which was in the floating town) he took us past to show me where right by a power pole...dodgy!!!! That being said we enjoyed the ride was a bit long long but funny seeing the old guys sitting on there wharf fishing with a can of coke in hand. lol with us it would be a can of beer!Stroll around the city and get some photos it is a very pretty place I suggest a tripod for good night photos if you have the space in you luggage.Late night duty free shopping. So nice shops and some good things t to buy if you have time to look around.

jurodong park

by Chellenz

Jurodong park was great fun...although a lot of the rides were closed due to a big concert celebration they had two days prior we still had fun and it was an awesome way to start our holiday. The roller coaster and the log flume are absolutely amazing and for $12 or whatever it is for the day how could you go wrong really. The crystal arch is pretty and makes for good photos also the gardens looked amazing unfortunely they were closed on the day when we were there although we managed to sneek in to get one photo of the clock tower with some sweet talking or begging on all of our parts.we enjoyed this part of brunei although they only open certain days so make sure you check before going out there its a long way out and no taxis to get back best to stay at a closely located hotel that you can walk to and from. Very quiet out there and nothing to do other than what I have talked about...

The Palace of the Sultan of Brunei

by Saagar

Of all residences of the world this must be among the most stylish and expensive. Close to the city centre, yet in a world by itself protected by Gurkha forces from Nepal, the Sultan and his family have a playground unilke any other here. Famously rich, the Sultan topped the palace with gold cupolas reminicent of the islamic cultural heritage. Most of the palace is otherwise semi-underground. The palace was said to cost USD 500 million when built in the early 80'ies.

The rain forest near the waterfalls

by kokoryko

There is a small track on the right side when arriving at the falls, it leads up hill (left you can go down to the river above the falls), and after 300 m you are “in the rainforest”! Big trees, mushrooms, many sorts of epiphyts, giant ants, termites constructions, noise, noise, mainly orthopters (cigales, crickets, sauterelles) and birds high in the trees, typical smell of humus, many lianes, (the rattan, so nice as furniture, here with spines, which can hurt very badly); There is no more track, but it is a primary forest, the vegetation on ground is not dense, and you can walk for a while, on the top of the hill (I even spotted feetprints of probable hogs or antelopes). It is worth to spend 2-3 hours there after the little deception of the waterfalls.

Waisai Wong Kadir waterfalls

by kokoryko

I knew it would not be Niagara or Victoria falls, but . . . . . it was a bit a deception as I was going to look at waterfalls; the track to get there in the forest is nice and the small river has it’s charm. There, you can have a dive (own risk, signs tell it) in the cool clean water. The area is not crowded. . . . Location: Road to Teraja, after crossing the one way bridge after Labi, 7 km a sign is on the left side of the road;
