Jogging track

by kokoryko

Going out from the Sheraton, right side, take the first street right going uphill. After 300 m climbing, go round the telelecom antenna and there begins a track you can follow for a few km on the hillcrest; you may hear (myself I heard them but could not see) the monkeys barking in the trees, see lots of flowers and birds, we are not used to see generally. From some places you may have a good view over the city and walking more you forget the city, the civilisation, and you are right in the forest! Not the primary original forest, but only nature is there. I Recommend to walk early in the morning, otherwise you will have to carry water, it is hot, very hot here, even under the trees.

Kampung Ayer The Water Village

by kokoryko

Nothing beautiful but a nice ambiance there walking on the bridging between the houses. Kampung Ayer (literally: water village) is a stilt village just opposite the city where it is interesting to have a 2 hours walk and look at the people there; very quiet place, picturesque in some way; hire a taxi boat at the market or on the quay, (1 Brunei $, for one way, 10 to 15 Brunei $, depending on your bargain skills, for a one hour tour), and ask the boatman to make a tour in the water “streets”. Not as romantic as Venetia, but with luck some charming view can be seen like some boats crowded with people going full speed through the water “streets”.

Chinese temple

by kokoryko

This tiny temple is located opposite the market on Jalan Sungai Kanggeh. The local Chinese community organises some theatre or opera shows on some evenings and I was lucky to attend one. Try to have a look after 7 pm.

Sultan Omar Ali Saiffudin Mosque

by kokoryko

This mosque is also a modern example of rich Islamic architecture, with golden domes, coloured window glasses, and best seen at night with all the green lights. Located near the downtown shopping mall, cannot be missed.

Jame Ars Hassani Bolkiah mosque

by kokoryko

This mosque is most impressing at night with the lights on the golden dome and golden minaret tops; modern, rich building this has some personality even did not feel a lot of spiritualism or feeling for pray there. The Sultan has lots of money to spend. . . . Location near Tutong and Gadong roads; nice flowered gardens around.

by SangAji

The Seria oil fields have produced more than 1 billion barrels of hydrocarbon since the first well Seria 1 was drilled back in 1929, and continues to produce till today.A monument was built to mark the occassion near Seria Well No.1, and the landscape is dotted by lots of "nodding donkeys".

This popular recreational park, along the Muara-Tutong highway, is about 20 minutes drive from the capital, It is set in 70ha of undulating landscape providing a challenge for even the most dedicated joggers, hikers and bikers. An observation tower gives a bird's eye view over the whole terrain.

Luagan Lalak Forestry Recreation Park

by adnan1977

Lying about 25 km from Sungai Liang along the Labi road, this park covers an area of roughly 270 hectares within the Labi Hills Forest Reserve. A rare and interesting place, it features an alluvial freshwater swamp or empran. During rainy periods it fills up like a lake, and in drier spells the waters recede and the valley becomes covered with sedges - mainly of the species Lepironia. There are shelters, footpaths and a 200metre wooden walkway which spans most of the lake.

Sungai Liang Forest Recreational Park

by adnan1977

Sungai Liang is about 70 km from Bandar Seri Begawan, and the drive takes about an hour along the coastal highway. The park is 450 metres from the main Sungai Liang junction along the road to Labi. This is one of several parks which have been developed and maintained for public recreation. The park is one of very few lowland forest areas in Southeast Asia and has facilities for general recreational activities, such as picnicking, jogging and hiking. It also caters for natural history devotees, with self-guided or organised group tours of the forest. The main pond, with its shelter platforms and open areas in the central complex, should satisfy visitors looking simply for fresh air and beautiful outdoor surroundings. The more energetic may care to explore the network of well-marked nature trails that wind their way around the park, including a high-level canopy walkway in the tree-tops....

An amalgamation of traditional and modern architectural styles, the Yayasan Complex, as it is locally known, is one of the capital's most popular shopping venues.Paved with cooling, polished granite around the central fountain, the Yayasan Complex's colonnaded walkway offers picturesque views of the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque to the west and Kampung Ayer to the east. The shopping complex was opened in July 1996, and features designer-goods boutiques, department store shopping and fine-dining venues. The Yayasan Complex is a project of His Majesty to generate revenue for a foundation dedicated to the welfare of the Bruneian people.
