Pork & Liquor probihited!

by malakingtete

FYI, any type of liquor and food that contains or is from pork is not allowed. It is a Muslim country so that is expected anyway. With that said, you can conclude that there is no nightlife and that you'll be forced to like other meat products like beef & chicken or sea foods during your stay! he he he he.... According to some Filipino residents, some Muslims & Filipinos would sneak some in though... Can't be too clean at all times! ha ha ha ha

See No Taxi

by amiya

Dont expect to get taxi easily here except for at the airport or hotel. If you are going somewhere with a taxi please remember to figure out how u will get back. Stopping a taxi along the road pretty much wont happen. So u either get taxi number, arrange hotel shuttle service, rent your own car or get the bus route ready before hand.

One hundred dollar notes

by cochinjew

are changed today 20 january 2008 at the rate of 1.41 brunei ringitt to one, but they would accept only one hundred dollar notes issued AFTER 2000. this is a new twist, in other countries like Burma, they look for tears and marks and in Cuba they look to see if they are crisp but here for the first time I heard this. in any case, always carry a couple of extra 100 notes.. you will never know when you need themATMs are everywhere so you wont be stranded..

Road maps and touristic information maps

by kokoryko

There are no real road maps in Brunei, and the tourist map are totally inaccurate; I met people who did not find what they were looking for and went short of petrol…..The map of the ministry of tourism, for instance locates the Waisai Wong Kadir waterfalls north of Labi, they are in fact 8km south of Labi ; I could check that, but there are probably other inaccuraties; make sure you have petrol in your car when you go, and drive around before reaching what you wanted to reach.editor of the maps : http://www.tourismbrunei.com/#

by SangAji

The 3 Sisters is infamous for being silent killers, especially when they awaken. So, don't be tempted to ride or go up the nodding donkeys when they are asleepThey may just awaken without warning and catch riders in their armsYou see, they operate on timers!

by Rice_Paper

Because this is a Muslim country, one must be careful or what they do or say. Along with alcohol, you will not find pork (yes, the other white meat) anywhere in the menu in Brunei. Yes, everything is pretty strict around here.

Not much of a 'DANGER' post,...

by Rice_Paper

Not much of a 'DANGER' post, but there is NO ALCOHOL in Brunei. In 1990, a law prohibiting the sale of alcohol was passed. So, if you wanna party, I suggest you take a trip to Miri (see picture; Sarawak, East Malaysia) from Kuala Belait. It takes approximately 2 hours to drive down or you can bus down. Will add more info on Miri soon. :)

by Rhys_Jones

Plenty of currupt police. Our house got brokrn into, and some fingerprints were left on the windowsill in the dust. We pointed this out to the police and they did not know what to do with them. It probably was an inside job as we were on a british ex - pat camp and they keep a list of people who are on holiday. Our next door neighbours who happened to have the same sur name were, and we rekon they got the wrong house!!!The south china sea is full of all sorts of nasty things from snakes to jelly fish to salt water crocs. Bathe at your own risk. Me and friends used to surf in it a lot, and only got stung a few times - nothing serious. But heard stories of young children being killed by jelly fish!Watch out for snakes.
