Getting to the market entails a boatride and a long walk but its really worth it..The boat trip itself is great. The local Shan people come from all over for the markets and the markets are held at different days in different locations..
These markets are for local people and you will not find tourist items here..only locally made arts and crafts..mainly food and clothing items although I did notice a table with hardware items!!.There was a lot of various items made from cane including baskets . bowls,hats, and bags. as most of these locals are extremely poor a lot of these items for sale are luxuries. .Also many food stalls with locally made snacks..

NAUNG SHWEWhile in Lake Inle make sure that you take a longboat ride on the lake..Trips are not expensive if you are just one or two..considering what you will see it is a great day spent..So many people come here to trek into the mountains and stay with the hill tribes...but if you can find time for a boat trip ..you will love it.
Take special attention to the boat fisherman as they wrap thier leg around the boat oar..then they will steer and paddle the longboat leaving their hands free to cast nets and fish. The weather can change in an instant so make sure that you carry a raincoat or poncho with you..The weather can change quickly on the lake as I found out.The river is an absolute labarynth of various "river roads" combing the sides of the lake with a vast array of buildings.Sometimes you cant be blamed for wondering how this boatman can find his way around in this maze,
You will be asked by the boatman what you would like to see while on the lake as there are many places that they stop in floating villages..ie:blacksmiths, silversmiths ,restaurants, spinning and weaving at a textile factory, long necked women,jumping cat monastary, ..markets (ashore) this involves a walk of a few kilometers..but well worth it..here you will see many different tribes people down from the hillsides..

NAUNG SHWE After arriving by plane at Heho Airport and after going through the usual police formalities of ID check and "where are you staying ?"etc..I paid my tax or fee ($US 3.00) to enter this area...
