    DAY 2: Abeyadana Temple

Abeyadana temple was built by King Kyanzittha during A.D 1102-1103 devoted for his wife whom he married while he was still a young warrior. Abeyadana means the "abandoned jewel"!!
It is a temple of classical architecture with interesting paintings. The inner shrine contains a large, brick-built seated Buddha, but the fine frescoes are the main interest here.

This temple isn't usually listed among the top attractions in the area, but I thought it was impressive nonetheless. UNESCO had been funding a restoration, but apparently the project was abandoned. When we arrived here, the place was all locked up but one of the monks let us in. It was sad seeing all the tools and step ladders inside gathering dust.

The structure itself was completed shortly after 1000 AD. It looks quite imposing from the outside and there are neat frescoes on the walls if you go in.

A very beautiful temple located at the right hand side of bagan-nyaung u, towards new bagan. Notice the stone lion (or creature) near to the roof top.
