Mandalay Division Transportation

    Mandalay Transportation

We paid about US$25 per day for the services of 2 guys and this old Corolla. Neither had any training, but were excellent guides in and around Mandalay. They tried really hard to provide us with all the services of a good driver and guide team. These guys were actually unofficially attached to our hotel, The Sedona, and it was quite comical to be...

  • Round Bagan, Horse and Cart

    Bagan Transportation

BAGAN The mode of transport I chose in Bagan was The horse and cart which I hired from my hotel .After looking at the various means of transport this seemed to be the most practical mainly because of the extreme heat and the vast distances that I had to cover.. I did look at hiring a bicycle from the hotel as they were cheap and they had many. I...

Timetable Mandalay- Mingun 09:00 - 09:55 Mingun-Mandaly 13:00 - 13:45 Fare 5000 Ks The public company is supposed to leave from Mandaly at 08:30 and the fare should be between 3000 and 4000...

  • Rickshaws / Trishaws

    Mandalay Transportation

You need to try this at least once. Trishaw travel in Mandalay is great. More than affordable, but with one drawback. Many (or most) of the trishaw drivers are limited in their education and cannot read a map or english. You really need your hotel to tell them where you want to go, and in this situation you have no hassle. BUT, if you pick one...

    Mandalay Transportation

I took a couple of different airlines flying to and from Mandalay during the past two trips and they were all decent. The service was good but one airplane seemed a bit on the older side. What I didn't like was having to wait until getting to the country to book the flight and I wasn't able to plan my entire trip ahead of time. I learned that you...

  • Bagan, to and from, Overland

    Bagan Transportation

There is a regular bus connection between Mandalay and Bagan (several buses a day). For the roughly 300km it takes about 8h - that says it all about the road condition. Additionally to the common exchange of bodyfluids with you seatneighbour, I was lucky to have a kid next to me, that got sick and had to throw up several times...the juicy bags...

    Mandalay Transportation

The cheapest way to get around Mandalay is by Taxi bus, basically you just flag down the driver and climb aboard. You should check with the driver first to make sure he is headed in your direction. The fare depends on the distance, expect around 20 to 50 kyat for a short trip (USD $0.02-$0.05). Cheap! It is not unusual to see a bus this crowded....

    Bagan Transportation

From Yangon to Bagan is a one and a half hour flight (I used Air Bagan). Bagan is connected by flight to Yangon and Mandalay. By overland it takes 12 hours from Yangon and 7 from Mandalay by coach. There are also a very slow train from Yangon to Thazy and then a 3 hours drive to Bagan. Also there is a steamer service between Bagan and Mandalay. So...

Renting a motorbie with or without driver is a good option to visit tourist places around Mandalay. Usually, three places are worth a visit in one day: Sagaing, Inwa and Amarapura. For a whole day, a motorbike with driver is about 15.000 Ks, while without driver is 10.000 Ks. Sincerely, I advise you to rent it with driver. One of the motorbike...

This is a very blurry picture I know but I thought it was pretty evocative and gave an impression of Maymyo/Pyin O Lwin being stuck in the 50s. It is called a garry. My mother remembers using these in the 40s and they are still around and still being used! Unfortunately, we did not have time to hire one but I would have loved to.
