Actually it is the best place to take a rest and get a meal on the way to the Kyaikhtio
( Golden Rock ) .
This resort contains two swimming pools ( adults and for kids ) , charmy restaurant , souvenir shop and a tower , from where you can take a look on the Golden Rock with telescope.

Favorite Dish: Grilled duck ( a half of Pegu bird )

View of the Karaweik from the restaurant

I had the most wonderful food at this restaurant. At night, there is a great view of the Karaweik from the dining area. The staff are very attentive and the food is great. This place is one of my favourites.

Favorite Dish: Prawns with tamarind sauce - I have never tasted anything so good!!

food in Burma

Good info above by veronique on the Indian influenced Burmese food but there are Chinese and Shan restaurants as well. The Shan food is closer to Chinese but is spicey. One thing I've encountered regularly is that they still do tend to use a fair amount of oil in their cooking so you'll need to request in advance for them to use less oil. The best dishes are those that are freshly cooked on the spot instead of precooked dishes that sit in pots and then heated up. No problem with rice. I usually tend to loose weight when I'm traveling there (in contrast to Thailand) but there are some good restaurants such as the Golden Duck (Yangon and Mandalay), Singapore Kitchens (Yangon), Tha-Zin Restaurant (2 in Kalaw), Mr. Food's (Hsipaw), etc. I'm sure mique will be around shortly to make some great recommendations since she lives there from time to time.
Anyways, have an excellent trip!
PS--Yangon's got some pretty good international food, too.
Inle Pancake Kingdom in Nyaungshwe's got pretty good crepe meals and desserts.

View Point Restaurant: Cleanest food in Inle Lake
jumpamonkey profile photo
jumpamonkey 13 reviews

Kitchen and bathrooms are spotless. Chef trained with European to prepare local Shan foods that are presented flawlessly. You'll even have linen napkins. ASK FOR CHARLIE (Mr. Che) as your waiter! Speaks English fluently and knows how to take care of you. He will also take you to Taugnee for a day and be your guide. If he likes you, he may even invite you to his home for a real meal cooked by his wife that will be incredible!

Favorite Dish: Beef is awesome (5500kyat). Long Bean Salad and Avocado Salad are incredible. You can make a big lunch from two side dishes at only 1000 kyat ($1USD) each! Bring your own beer as they ask 4000 kyat for beers but offer 2-for-1 from 4-7pm.

Century Travel (& Restaurant): Inle Lake - Best Hidden Food Option
jumpamonkey profile photo
jumpamonkey 13 reviews

Inle Lake has few clean options to eat. The best hidden gem is at Century Travel. Misu is the owner and speaks fluent English. She closed the restaurant because tourism is so slow. BUT, ask her a day ahead and she will cook any local foods you want or recommend some. A whole fish steamed with Shan spices in bamboo leaves plus a couple of side dishes will only cost about 3000 kyat ($3USD)! She is also the best person to book tickets with.

Favorite Dish: Make sure you try the Shan Flower Salad (if it is in season), Aubergine with Potatoes and her mixed vegetables. Ice cold beers are only 1500kyat for large bottles. Fish prepared several ways is fresh from the market each day. Her spicy beef curry (Shan style) is incredible!

In small Ngapali beach restaurant

Burmese cuisine at all is like these of Thailand ,Cambodia , but much more like to India cuisine, it spicy but mild them Thailandy dishes. On Ngapali beach these folk who like fish and sea food will enjoy with abundance of these dishes, along the road from airport near hotels you have plenty of small restaurants that served tasty sea food for very affordable prices.

Queens Restaurant was a great place in Bagan. They serve great Chinese food and a very cheap price. We went here several times during our stay in Bagan. Very good chicken with rice dishes. Tasty cold beer. Delicious servings of mango for dessert. You can eat plenty and have beer for under $5US per person. The staff is also very attentive and friendly.

street snacks in Yangon

There are several dining options in Myanmar. You can buy food from food stalls on the street (though not as often as in neighbouring countries) in local restaurants (LP guidebook proved correct with its recommendations in most cases) or even more upmarket choices with great ambience and service. The cuisine is mainly Bamar, SE asian or Chinese and generally cheap and not too spicy (for tourists I guess). All sorts of meat are used and a lot of vegetables. Fruits are always a welcome by the end of a nice meal.
The best value for money and taste was in Sam's family restaurant in Kalaw (the one organising treks). Freshly family made cooking!!.
Best noodles: Green Elephant Riverview in Bagan.
Best ambience: Any restaurant in Inle lake, Green Elephant riverview in Bagan.
Worst meal: in Kyaiktiyo.
Posh, expensive and not memorable: Green Elephant in Mandalay, Singapore's Kitchen in Yangon.

Cafe Aroma: The place to go when you're all curried out

When in Yangon, and you are dying for some western style food (or fancy coffee), this is your place. The place has a clean, upmarket look and you'll find instant relief when the cool aircon hits you. Menu choices include burgers, pizza, pastas and the like. For coffee freaks, this place is a gold mine, with the good stuff you crave. Sit by the window and watch the traffic and sweaty pedestrians go by.

Favorite Dish: The fruit shakes here are damn good
