Pickups are leaving when full from Mandalay, 84. street near 29. street (Zegyo market) via Amarapura to Sagaing near the trainstation and market, 400 Kyat.
It would be good to have some smaller bills such as 100 and 200 Kyat notes for buying snacks outside the Payas. The vendors don't always have change for the big 1000 Kyat notes! Even though 1000 = a little over a US$1
Well this isn't really a tourist trap but could be considered one by some people. Outside of town before you cross the Ava Bridge there is a booth set up where all foreigners must pay US$3 to enter the Sagaing - Mingun Archaelolgical Zone. It also gains you entrance to all of the areas Temples. You must keep the ticket with you at all times. But I was never asked to see mine. It is valid for 5 days. For most people 5 days would be sufficient to see the sites that the ticket covers.
Unique Suggestions: The Sagaing - Mingun area is quite large so it's not like it only covers a couple of small Payas.
This covered walkway went a lot further than my photo shows. For those long barefooted walks these cavered walkways sure are a lifesaver. I wondered how long the tradition has been going with the covered walkways because all of the walkways that I saw were covered in tin. And Tin sheeting hasn't been around for hundreds of years!more
