Well it wasn't a true tourist trap to me but I see the possibiltity of it! After crossing the bridge there is a small booth with a guy in it that collects 100 Kyat US$.11cents for camera fees and 200 kyat if you've got a video camera. The guy was asleep as we were walking by and he heard us talking and he had to call us back. As I saw the covered walkway which I thought would have some vendors inside and I wanted to avoid any of that. So I didn't walk directly in front of his booth. One bad thing about the covered walkway is that it bypasses the 400 Pagodas that most people are there to look at. One good thing about it is that it keeps you out of the scorching sun. We hiked up outside of the covered walkway and I was so glad we did as the Pagodas are so beautiful! They are unrestored so you really get a feel of stepping back in time a few hundred years. When we walked back down we went on the other side of the walkway in the forest then cut into the walkway halfway down. There were only about 3 vendors set up inside and they were pretty much asleep so we didn't get bothered at all. But the potential is there if you went in a big group.
