Pye is off the beaten path and honestly I don't recommend it, but I'm glad I went because I saw life under martial law and felt perfectly ill at ease.

But I would recommend the not off the beaten path Wooden Bridge up in Mandalay. It's quite scenic and chill.

Hop onto the train (yeah, like the one in the photo below) to Mandalay!

As a matter of interest, this particular overly-crowded train was indeed heading towards Mandalay. Queuing up to buy train tickets here in Yangon also deserves an entire chapter.... Did you know that the Burmese folks would camp outside the train station 24 hours before the tickets go on sale?!

    'Villages of Myanmar'

by Arcangeloni Written Aug 16, 2003

Myanmar is the focus of our next expedition. It is remains under military rule and as a result we won't know exactly what we will and we won't be able to do until our arrival. This should make the expedition all the more exciting. Myanmar is reknowned for its beauty and a dramatic rise in tourism in some parts of the country reflect this fact. Our aim is to venture into the most unexplored regions and live, for a short while, with the notoriously friendly local people. All details of this expedition and others can be found on our website, www.arcangeloni.com

There are quite a few different religions represented. I was surprised to see so many churches in the country and in Yangon there are a couple of really big churches.
