Green Elephant in Yangon

A short taxi ride away from centre of town in The Green Elephant Restaurant. I had a pleasant and delicious dinner there in March 2004.
As we had gone there around 9 pm, there were not too many diners and it added to the romantic atmosphere of this restaurant.

Favorite Dish: a romantic dinner for two at Green Elephant

Myanmar style Fish Curry with Drum sticks 3500 kyats
Chicken curry with coconut rice 2500 kyats
slicing sweet radish salad with sesame 1200 kyats
grilled aubergine salad 1500 kyats
lime soda 500 kyats each
steamed rice 1000 kyats
coconut rice 1500 kyats

10% tax and 10% service

the total bill was close to 16 000 kyats, less than 20 USD.

excellent service

The Green Elephant in Yangon: Yet another Myanmar Success

The Green Elephant Restaurant

Yet another success story of a Myanmar woman establishing and shining in business..Cherie Aung Thin who is from Rakhine region ( where the best Thanaka comes from ) had been living in Thailand and returned to Myanmar to establish a Furniture and Antiquities Business . Noting the lack of easily available Myanmar food, she persuaded her own chef to open a restaurant which later moved to the current location.
Very nice ambience, needless to say very attentive service. Food is fabulous.
Had a chance to talk to the general manager Daw Win May Aung, a very pleasant woman.

Favorite Dish: Gourd Soup
Bean Salad
Penny wort salad
Tomato salad ( they came from Inle I think)
Fish and Prawn Curry
