Ton Yan restaurant.: Authentic food.
Although run by Chinese people, this is an authentic Shan restaurant (it was a Shan friend who took me there) This place really is typical of Burmese street food eating, the usual low stools set round tables on the pavement, and a lively crowd of locals who provide a wonderful atmosphere. The food is great and, typically, very inexpensive by Western standards. You would be going some to eat more than about 3 dollars US worth of food.
For sheer street eating (the norm in SE Asia) this place is hard to beat.
Favorite Dish: Shan nodles, served with all the traditional accompaniments, by some lovely youngsters. Beer is avaiable, if you fancy one. Great place.

Tan Yan: The best meal we had in Yangon, perhaps Myanmar!!
This restaurant actually comes courtesy of fergie which I am updating. This was by far the best meal we had in Yangon and perhaps in Myanmar.
When we went they did not have their menu/ booklet which has pictures of their dishes but they organised for a friend of the people next door who works at the embassy to translate for us. He sat down and had a drink with us which was very nice.
In terms of street food and ambience ie., eating with the local population it was great!!
Two bottles of beer, two noodle dishes, fish curry, vegetables and rice - under US$6.00!!
Favorite Dish: We ordered two noodle dishes and a fish curry. The fish was superb!! As you can see it was a whole fish and it cost a whole US$1.50 !!!see pics!
