National Independence Monument
I know the photos both makes it look somewhat like the leaning tower of Pisa (one deliberately, the other accidentally), but believe me, it's not. It stands perfectly upright, all 150 feet of it, in the middle of Mahabandoola Park, surrounded by it's guarding ceremonial beasts.
In fairness, there's not a lot to see in the park and if you really wanted you could take a picture from outside the railings, but the nominal 200 kyat entry fee (about 20 cents US or 12 pence UK) makes it seem like a bit of a miserly saving.

mahabandoola garden and national monument
it's a greenery park with a monument in the central of yangon, within walking distance to directions of city hall, immigration office, law court and saint immanuel church. also becomes a nice place to mingle with locals in the evening.
the name mahabandoola is taken from a legend about a dedicated general in the army long time ago.

Downtown: Obelisk devoted to Indepedence
Next to Sule Pagoda is the Maha Bandoola Park named after the national hero who stood up against the british colonial occupation. The park is dominated by a massive obelisk rising 48m from the ground, surrounded by 5 smaller columns and bronze lions. The obelisk symbolizes Myanmar and the smaller ones the 5 partially autonomous states. The whole structure is the "Monument to Indepedence". As there was an entrance fee to get into the park, we decided just to make some photos from the entrance...
