Kampung Kantuot High School
cheapskate Says:
This is a high school that caters to almost 3000 students who stay nearby. NEARBY meaning up to 10kilometres away. The school has no proper water supply and is extremely short of money. One would have thought that a school that has such a great capacity would have the basic...
Pagodas
cheapskate Says:
Cambodia is a Buddhist country so almost everywhere you go, you can find a Khmer style temple or pagoda.
Chit Chatting Under the Trees
cheapskate Says:
It was suppose to the monsoon season but the rain came late and the heat was absolutely crazy! The rivers have dried up and there's no breeze. Don't even bother looking for an air conditioner!! Soooo.. One way to get away from the heat is to hide in the shades of the trees.
Sugarcane Water
cheapskate Says:
Sugarcane drink here tastes different from the one we get in Singapore. It seemed sweeter.Extremely satisfying and thirst quenching when you're perspiring under the scorching heat.
Somebody's Home: No Guesthouses nor Hotels nor Resort
cheapskate Says:
I stayed in somebody's house.Big concrete 2-storey house. Our team occupied the 2nd level for our stay. I think the man who owned the house is relatively rich in the village.Well, everybody knows everybody in the village. Everybody has something to say about everybody.....

Hmm.. you may not want to see how the food is being cooked/ packed if you are squirmish.
You may not even want to sit by the stall to eat your food unless u want to be constantly swatting flies instead of eating your food.. haha
Favorite Dish: Instant noodles with some kind of meat... sometimes ignorance is bliss...
Just eat.

Watching the sun set
Helpfulness
cheapskate 117 reviews
There is no nightlife at all. In fact it isn't very safe to go out once the sun has set. There are gangsters around.
The streets are not lit at all, you will need torchlights if u absolutely need to get out.

Fireworks does not mean a celebration
cheapskate Says:
There was one night when we heard fireworks and got really excited coz we thought there was some procession or celebration going on.However, a student told us that it actually meant that sombody has passed away. So that explains the monk's prayers in the background as well.

Miscellaneous: Standard of hygiene differs greatly from those in the city. Not for the weak hearted nor those with weak stomach...
No fun especially where there are no proper flushing systems!

Fondest memory: We completed the refurbishment for 4 classrooms in Kampung Kantuot High School.
You can't imagine the sense of achievement i felt when i saw that the students were using the classrooms.
I'm pretty sure it's an improvement from the previous dark and dreary condition that it was in. Looks brighter and cheery now.. :)
