Fruit shakes are a real treat in Cambodia. A lot of travelers shy away from them as they are made with ice but I never seemed to get sick from them. In fact, it’s said that ice in Cambodia is filtered. They are tasty no matter and the trick is they use sweetened condensed milk and a raw egg to make them extra creamy and sweet. The most atmospheric place to have one is along the river and these little stalls only open at night. Just go up and point at the fruit you want and wait for the tasty nectar to be prepared under the neon lights.

Visiting a night club in Cambodia is a really weird, but nevertheless fun, experience. Once you enter you're immediately 'attacked' by 20 or so beer girls trying to sell you their product. On stage there was a Khmer girl band consisting of four barely dressed teenage girls singing local pop songs with occasional Karaoke attempts by one of the guests.
The strangest experience, however, was the bathroom visit. There is one guy whose only job is to open the door for you. So i entered the room and went to the pissoir. I opened the zipper and was about to start when i suddenly felt two hands on my shoulders. First i was rather shocked, but then i realised that the beer price includes a 'toilet massage'. When you're finished this night club employee will also wash and dry your hands. That's what i call service.
This was the place where i spent my 24th birthday.

This is a nice Pub, sitting on the balcony You can watch the activity on the river.
The jungle is very close and the drinks are chep.
We had a free transportation to this Pub and the ticket was given to us in the "harbour"

The Phare Ponleu Selpak was founded by former refugees. In the refugee camp in Thailand they learn drawing. They believed that it was a very good concept and they wanted to give something back to the Cambodian people. In Phare Ponleu Selpak children can visit art classes as well as the circus school. We were told that about 400 children visit the classes. About 100 children get daily lunch and about 30 children live permanantley there.
On several evening during a month the circus takes place. Make sure you visit a show when staying in Battambang. Before the show starts you get a welcome drink and can visit the exihibition room. You can also buy the paintings. The sale revenue will be divided between the school and the artist.
It was a wonderful evening!

This is the only place to come and chill in the city. It's in an old wooden house over looking the river. Wicker tables and chairs,bed seats and fairy lights. Looks out onto the river. Drinks are a reasonable price and food is pretty good. They have a pool table, but it was being used for bread storage when we were there.
Just remember to take you shoes off before you go up the stairs. We didn't realise as we were the first there. Opens 4-11pm. Moto ride costs 1000 riel or you can walk. All the moto and Tuk Tuk drivers know it.
Dress Code: No dress code. Just take your shoes off before you go up the stairs.
