Motocycle may be the best resort there: $4-$6 a day (24 hours). You should be having that. When
no using it, leave it at the place where u rented it. Thery provides enough petrol to the nearest gas pump only. (5000 riel/1 litre).
Be carefull with police on the road.
Tuk-tuk: $2 from Bus station to Serendipity beach - down the dirty road.
Cut down the offerred price to 1/2, 1/3.

I took a Phnom Penh Sorya Transport Company bus from their office near the Central Market in Phnom Penh to Sihanoukville. The buses depart from Phnom Penh at 07:00, 08:00, 09:00, 10:00, 11:30, 12:45 and 13:45. The bus cost me $3.75 and took about 4 hours with a stop for lunch along the way. I then took another bus coming back to Phnom Penh where buses leave at 07:00, 08:00, 09:00, 12:15, 13:15 and 14:15.

As Sihanoukville is fairly spread out, the best way of getting around is by renting a scooter which is what I did for the few days I was there over the New Year period. I hired one from a place in Downtown, near the bus station, along the main road near where it bends for $7/day. It was brand new and had only done 50km! Be careful whilst driving around as Cambodians have the nack of just pulling out of turnings into oncoming traffic without looking or waiting. Also, where a helmet for two reasons: 1. if the police catch you, they'll fine you but this should only be about $1 and 2. I saw a foreign guy involved in an accident along the main road in Downtown with blood pouring down the back of his head. Luckily he was OK and had a foreign friend. This happened on New Year’s Eve so he didn't have much to celebrate that night. I saw him the next day with bandages wrapped around his head. That same day the police were out in force stopping people who weren't wearing a helmet.

I was half expecting to find a nice Art Deco French colonial station like the one in Phnom Penh but found this monstrous concrete carbuncle of a building instead. Don't expect any trains to be running from here today, (at a railway station? Come on!), as they stopped running a few years ago.

Don't go with Rith Mony Transport. Unfriendly ticket vendors charge foreigners 8$ (locals pay 4$). Aircon worked not so good, they make a 15 min. stop halfway.

The way back I took Mekong Express, they do the same trip for 7$ (same for khmer and foreigners). This price includes modern aircon bus with toilet, a snack, a bottle of water and a "hostess service" (actually you don't need them, but they can be funny: "Is the music lovely, Sir?", when the radio started playing loud bouncing khmer hiphop). They go nonstop, about 4 hours.

In Sihanoukville, buses go to and from Psar Leu. In Phnom Penh to and from 87, Sisowath Quay. Several times a day.

Getting to Sihanoukville (Kampong Saom) is easy and relaxing. The road from Phnom Penh is (as of 2002) the only paved highway in Cambodia, and buses make the run quite regularly. You can arrange transportation from your guesthouse, which is convenient since the name of the town keeps changing.

The ride is only four hours of smooth sailing in a fairly comfortable bus. Halfway through, the bus stps as at a rest stand where you can buy food, drinks, and ciggies. Remember, a pack of US-made Marlboros will run you about $1. If you're into that sort of thing.

If you want to go to Thailand from Sihanouk ville you can go by boat to Koh Kong. The boat from Sihanoukville costs foreigners 600 baht and departs at 11am daily. The trip takes about three hours.
The ticket says 400 baht, but that was in 2001.
