If the afternoon heat gets to you in Angkor Wat, just walk beyound its main entrance and you'll find a chic little cafe just outside its main entrance . This cafe also doubles as a crafts shop, with lots of cute knick knacks made by locals from the Artisans d'Angkor shop.

Along with the array of stalls selling the mass produced fare at all of the main temples of Angkor Wat, there are some very good restaurants for lunch. You are still fair game for the roaming peddlers here - just like when you go to the toilet! The food is mid-range price, and certainly not cheap by most SE Asian country standards - but generally well presented, and the range was appealing to our family, including the kids.
We enjoyed this food each day we visited the temples, and did not go home for a lunchtime rest/break, which is often suggested. Our poor driver did not seem to mind! He was always provided with lunch at the restaurants we were taken to.
A favourite order was one of the various curries served in very well insulated coconuts! Mind the china! Kids particularly enjoyed chicken and rice dishes - sort of fried rice with chicken - not adventurous, but a safe choice for lunch for kids. As you approac to them you will be called from all of them, asking you to seat at theirs. Choose any, as they are all basically the same.
They serve basic rice/noodles plus veggies/meat dishes and are really cheap, so it will be a good lunch option if you are visiting the temples in a full day trip. Leave a Comment

You can find them in any food stall around the temples. They cut them for you and put a straw in it.

You can get really good, authentic Khmer meals here too.
My favourite dish was Chicken Amok, served in a coconut. This is a type of curry steamed in a banana leaf. They also serve Fish Amok. The menu was a bit limited and as we had been in SE Asia for seven weeks at that point, we were tired of the ubiquitous noodle meals. So, we opted for a chicken salad sandwich. We didn’t really expect much and were happy when the nice crispy baguette came out, full of chicken salad and home-made potato chips. It was five bucks for the two of us including freshly brewed ice tea with limes. This came in handy as once we finished these, we poured our own water over the ice and lime slices.
