Iced Coffee, Angkor Cafe by bpacker It was about 3 in the afternoon, searing hot at 40c. My two diva friends and I had just finished the Grand Circuit and were feeling cranky as hell. We told our driver to chauffeur us back to town as we only wanted to retreat back into the confines of a dark cafe like bats.Fortunately, our good-natured driver knew better and drove us to a chic little cafe at Angkor Wat instead. He was right, we loved the place and the air-con of course. After drinking our ice coffees, our sanity returned and we were able to return to tomb raiding. If the afternoon heat gets to you in Angkor Wat, just walk beyound its main entrance and you'll find a chic little cafe just outside its main entrance . This cafe also doubles as a crafts shop, with lots of cute knick knacks made by locals from the Artisans d'Angkor shop.
Though the prices are on the high side for the Cambodians, it's farily reasonable for the tourist pockets (mains $3-5) with nice gelatos, ethnic decor and life-saving air conditioning. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than average

My "Hawkers" by Jmill42 One of my favorite culinary memories of Angkor was going to the little food stalls in front of the main entrance to Angkor Wat. This is before the moat, across the road,in the back. You won't be able to get 10 feet from your Tuk-tuk, without being accosted by the little children telling you they have the best food. Just pick one quickly, so as not to hurt feelings, and follow them to the back. Meals are a bit pricier than normal for Cambodia, but still dirt cheap. If you are going to have fresh fruit, I would recommend buying a bottled water to wash it off with. You will be surprise how good Cambodian pancakes are!! Along with the array of stalls selling the mass produced fare at all of the main temples of Angkor Wat, there are some very good restaurants for lunch. You are still fair game for the roaming peddlers here - just like when you go to the toilet! The food is mid-range price, and certainly not cheap by most SE Asian country standards - but generally well presented, and the range was appealing to our family, including the kids. We enjoyed this food each day we visited the temples, and did not go home for a lunchtime rest/break, which is often suggested. Our poor driver did not seem to mind! He was always provided with lunch at the restaurants we were taken to.
A favourite order was one of the various curries served in very well insulated coconuts! Mind the china! Kids particularly enjoyed chicken and rice dishes - sort of fried rice with chicken - not adventurous, but a safe choice for lunch for kids. My meal in 1 of them by SirRichard Around the main temples you will find several food stalls with many tables on terraces under palm roofs. As you approac to them you will be called from all of them, asking you to seat at theirs. Choose any, as they are all basically the same. They serve basic rice/noodles plus veggies/meat dishes and are really cheap, so it will be a good lunch option if you are visiting the temples in a full day trip. Leave a Comment

Drinking a fresh coconut by SirRichard If you are thirsty (and you WILL be!) after visiting the temples, green coconuts are a superb natural option for you! You can find them in any food stall around the temples. They cut them for you and put a straw in it. Don't pay more than 0,50 USD for it! Leave a Comment

Our Driver waiting for us in front of Khmer Cafe by Pakistaniguy Most of the tour groups around Angkor head back to Siem Reap for the Lunch. This is as good a reason as any to stick around the temples, taking the advantage of the lack of crowds to explore some popular sites and enjoying a local lunch at one of the many stalls and restaurants surrounding the temples. The most extensive selection is lined up opposite the entrance to Angkor Wat, including several cheap and cheerful local restaurants, as well as the sophisticated Angkor Café, with refined ‘Khmer’ (Cambodian) food. Khmer Restaurant by Pakistaniguy As in the day it get really hot at the lunch time so you should try to drink a lot of water so that you do not feel dehydrated. Water and soft drinks are available throughout the temple area and many sellers are lurking in hidden corners of the temples. The price is a few cents more than what you’ll get from Siem Reap. but if u are really hungry then head towards Khmer Restaurant which offers good local dishes for moderate prices. by iwys Across the road from the main entrance to Angkor Wat is a cluster of open-air restaurants. These are nice places to take a break and drink a cool Angkor beer or two, when you are feeling templed out. The taxi drivers sit here and play cards with the restaurant workers. It's a good place to talk to Cambodian people, rather than just look at stones all day. Of course, you will meet the postcard and souvenir sellers too, but I had no problem with that. It's their country. You can get really good, authentic Khmer meals here too.
My favourite dish was Chicken Amok, served in a coconut. This is a type of curry steamed in a banana leaf. They also serve Fish Amok. Fast food at Angkor by LotusV8 You can find food and drinks everywhere around Your trip in the Tempel area, but it is expensive - 1 $ for a bottle of water ( I paid 75 cent for 6 bottles in Siem Rep!). Bring some fruit if You can carry it, remeber that every kilo feels like a ton after a few hours in the heat.
It´s most like thai food and tastes quite good. Leave a Comment Theme: Fast FoodPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averageDirections: Outside the Tempels

home-made potato chips a real surprise by richiecdisc Our driver, Mr. Tha was a big man as Cambodians go. It made us feel safe as he towered over his counterparts. It also made us feel pretty comfortable that he could find us a decent place to eat. Though we had him bring us back to town a few times for some of our favorite local meals, there were times when it was just easier to eat at the ruins. These simple outdoor restaurants all seem to have pretty similar menus and imagine they are uniformly good, but Mr. Tha had a connection to them so it seemed silly to buck the trend. It was certainly a pleasant enough place to get out of the midday sun and take a break from running around the ruins
The menu was a bit limited and as we had been in SE Asia for seven weeks at that point, we were tired of the ubiquitous noodle meals. So, we opted for a chicken salad sandwich. We didn’t really expect much and were happy when the nice crispy baguette came out, full of chicken salad and home-made potato chips. It was five bucks for the two of us including freshly brewed ice tea with limes. This came in handy as once we finished these, we poured our own water over the ice and lime slices. Leave a Comment Theme: LocalPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageDirections: There are loads of places located in a cluster close to the Byron. Generally, your driver will try and steer you to one of them. Unless you have a particular recommendation, it's probably easier to just go with the flow.
