Summer clothes

by juliewong

It was hot and humid in July despite the occasional rainshowers. Must bring items include sun block, shorts, t-shirts, sunglasses, hat, raincoat (during rainy season) and toiletries if you are planning to put up in a guesthouse. Bring camera cards for your wide angle /macro shoots of the angkorian architectures.

Cambodia survival kit

Daypack will be the best when visiting sites or during self-exploration of the place. Light clothing-- T-shirts,three-quarters, good pair of shoes/sneakers/sandals for all that walking, cap. A jacket is quite redundant but do bring along a poncho or raincoat as it will rain suddenly in the middle of the day sometimes. Insect repellent a must if you're prone to mosquitoes! GB sized memory cards, good and trusty cameras! A tube of sunblock would be nice if you're easily burnt like me!

Adaptors and a few handy hints

by Cathy&Gary

As most of us can only bring back 20 kilos of luggage (not counting hand luggage) make sure you have lightweight suitcases, our cases are huge but only weigh just under 5kilos.Dont bring home anything you can do without. Throw (give) away all your toiletries eg, shampoos, conditioners, deodorants etc, all these little things add up in weight.Load up your hand luggage with any heavy items you have bought, its amazing how much shopping you can cram into a backpack.Happy Shopping!! Good walking shoes or runners are a must for your day at the temples, especially if you intend to climb the stairs at Angkor Wat!! Dont forget a good strong Tropical Strength mossie repellent. We did not have a problem with mossies in Siem Reap but still carried some good repellent with us. Adaptors. The adaptor for Cambodia is the same one used in Bali and Thailand. We always take a small Aussie powerboard...

"Don't forget the Aerogard"

by thedouglas

Very important to take some sort of mosquito repellent, as there were some vicious ones when we visited in March this year. Most important when dining out at night - as we had some nasty red spots for days after forgetting.

Few Must Brings Things not mentioned by anyone

by blacksnail

Bring big bags!! lots of things to buy! ** nose & mouth Mask ** is really dusty and sandy in Siemreap, so make sure u bring one. i didn't bring one there, so i think my lungs are all dust now. I was told not to wear sleeveless or shorts there, as is not respectful to the temples, but everyone is wearing so revealing in such a hot weather. - Must Buy the straw hat there.- Sun glasses- Should not wear skirt there, especially if u taking tuk tuk or motorbike.- Do not wear anything white, cos anything white will turn brown at the end of the day. - Mosquito repellent- SunblockTat's wat i brought, and i don't think i need anything else.

Preparation for Your Angkor Wat Visit

by woosoowei

Most travellers would've done 'research' on Angkor Wat and Siem Reap before reaching the place. Some'll buy books and maps to get most comprehensive info to this yet-to-be-popular tourist spot. Actually, free maps and guidebooks are available in restaurants and guest houses, and the map will actually the same as in your expensive travel guide, haha. You'll find wide range of pirated guidebook on sale at every souvenir store and old market area. Price as low as USD2/copy. The ceiling price will go higher at further temple like Banteay Srei (25km from town), the reason being they need to travel long distance by bicycle to get there!Driver of your transport already have default location to stop you depending of circuit you are going on the day (Refer to Intro for defination of circuit). Unless you have strong idea of temples you want/don't want to go, else you can just let the driver...

Travel Gadgets to Angkor Temples

by woosoowei

I would advice all travellers to any destination to bring at least one empty bag. Wear comfortable walking/climbing shoes. All roads are having either uneven dirt surface, rocky surface or a mixture of both. And of course lots of climbing at temples required. The stairs are 1ft high and 3" wide - just imagine. Some ladies wearing sandals/high heels need to be bare footed. However you risk hurting yourself or bite by ants.It is recommended to bring umbrella all year long. Could be used in both sunny and rainy day. As I've experienced near Ta Phromh's dirt path, it was hot and sunny all day but suddenly rained. That's tropical weather! It's unpredictable. Cap, sun glasses and sunblock for those afraid of heat Temples of Angkor are very photogenic. Bring best camera you have, or go ahead upgrade the one you've planned to upgrade for long time but still planning. Bring big storage device....

Umbrella

by mary2u99

Bring a small backpack where you can keep your wallet, camera and your water bottle. Light t'shirt and shorts or pants. We were there during the raining season but its was almost hot and humid everyday except the day we went to see the sunset at Phnom Bakheng. We did bring our umbrella but it was no use we were soaken wet cause the rain was very heavy.

Sieam Reap Must Haves

by i-s-a

Pack Lightly! It is humid in Siem Reap (especially in summer) and you would not like to be perspiring a lot just by carrying those heavy luggages. Also, clothes in SR is inexpensive...you might want to buy there instead of bringing clothes from home. All you need are light clothes. Though it took a bit long to dry, thin cotton shirts are ideal as it absorbs sweat. Sturdy shoes or walking sandals would be needed for walking around town and for those visits to the temples. A 3-fold umbrella would be useful to ward of extreme heat from the sun...in case you're afraid of getting a heat stroke. If not, a sun visor or bandana would do just fine. Sunscreen. It is super hot in SR during summer.Bring OTC and other special medicines if you plan a whole day out to the temples...I didn't see any pharmacies near the tourist spots. They say "Take Nothing But Pictures" and I say "Lots of It!" ;0)Siem...

Tampons

by Tina-Perth

Ladies who visit Cambodia and use tampons should be sure to pack extra supplies just in case. I tried to buy tampons as a precautionary measure in case I didn't have enough and they don't even know what they are in Cambodia.I went to half a dozen shops including chemists (if you could call them that) and they had no idea what I was talking about, even when I showed them one. After showing one girl a tampon, she tried to sell me condoms. They only use sanitary pads there.I did not see any better quality shampoo in their hairdressing shops than Sunsilk either, so be sure you have plenty of whatever you need before you go.
