one tall thin German girlfriend

by richiecdisc

Backpack is essential. It's tough going trying to get on and off small wooden boats with a bloody suitcase! Sandals are great but boots are often better for getting from one locale to the next if you are lugging a pack around. Wide angle is the best for taking the full grandeur of Angkor Wat in and a zoom is great for taking sneaky monk photos. One tall thin German girlfriend (hmm, would make a good wife) comes in handy to keep the monks at bay. Since she speaks three languages, they wanted to speak to her more. Ok, ok, maybe it wasn't just her linguistic abilities they were interested in. ;)

MUST haves

by joeymello

Small ones should be fine. Definitely pack light because it is HOT there! Light clothing and shorts! I wore a t-shirt and pair of shorts all the time while I was there. Also bring hiking-type shoes as you will do alot of walking. I advise not to bring walking shoes (ironic I know) because most walking shoes do not have a good traction (they're usually very close to smooth on the bottom.) The temples are quite dusty in the dry season and it is quite easy to slip on the steps due to the dust/sand on them. Thus I suggest a comfortable walking-type of shoe that has good traction/creates friction against what it touches. 1) First Aid Kit --- **A MUST**I fell and got a number of cuts at Kbai Sneap. I washed the wounds using my water bottle and then used my first aid kit to treat it.2) Toilet Paper!!! Some of the bathrooms run out of toilet paper and so I advise to just bring your own. This...

Travel Bag, Day travel bag and a good lock... Wear light clothing....It can get really hot here.. Always better to have your own "Mini First Aid Kit" regardless of wherever you go...Toileteries items can be found in shops like 7 BRIGHT Market, but the basic necessities... To make those memories last forever, bring a good camera.. ( I'm an Olympus Fan ), those with experience and talent, SLRs are good to capture your best holiday moments... A hat / cap will be good as it can get really hot at times...

Things not to forget

by joscadi

A daypack to carry water bottles. Any light cotton clothing. Shorts and T-shirts are perfectly fine for exploring the temples. Bring lots of sun block as the sun can be brutal. Mosquito repellents are good to have if you are going out at night. Films are readily availble at the market places but for digital cameras bing extra memory. I have not found a place that seels them in Siem Reap. If you do find one, then it will probably very expensive.

Light cotton clothing, nothing too fitting or revealing. Good walking shoes, hat, sunglasses. Mosquito repellant, sun block, tissues. Extra batteries and film. Multipurpose adaptor. You can get extra film from small vendors throughout the temple complex.

I just carry 5.5liter backpack brand deuter and a small backpack for a small items. Timberland hiking shoes which is my favorite shoes than ever. Have been company me to wherever I've been and also sandals brand Teva use to be my favorite sandals as well. First Aid Kit is a must incase I get my feet cut from shaving. Digital Kodak Camera and Manual cameral and few roll films where one of them have gone blank. Sleeping Bag is important too beside that, bring tools for camping, unfortunately I didn't get a chance to camp. Few t'shirt especially red color as it's my favorite too, cargo pant, bermuda pant and I've got even more t-shirst in their market.

airport tax

by yukisanto

Airport departure tax is USD25; and by the way, what an airport it was. Looks like a bali resort. Quite an empty shell too - not many shops and the stuff are way expensive.

$$$

by urchinn

- Try to change as many USD 1 notes as possible cos almost all Khmer traders prefer USD, and very often "do not have change" for your bigger notes.

A Scarf and more memory card for your digicam

by vuzu

It's dusty along the way to Banteay Srey, so , bring along your scarf. Besides, banteay srey is good for photography. More memory card for you digital shot.

Cottons and repellents

by jmmorgan

It was so hot we found we were changing our clothes 4 times a day. Stick to cool cottons. Bring plenty of bug repellent. There are lots to choose from.
