Boat Station Shops: Shop in Chnong Keas Boat Station

by machomikemd Written Jul 18, 2012

The Chnong Keas Boat Station has a souvenir shop and if you plan to do some last minute shopping for souvenir items before leaving to seam reap then you can buy the souvenir items here at the boat station. they have more items being sold here than the tourist shops at the floating villages like paintings, carvings, bronze sculptures and more and the prices are also negotiable so your haggling skills must be good.

opens: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm everyday

What to buy: any souvenir item that you want like refrigerator magnets, shot glasses, key chains, Angkor Wat books, maps, wooden carvings, laterite carvings, ladies bags, crocodile leather goods, paintings, some local food, snacks, refreshments, snake wine and more

What to pay: more expensive if you don't haggle!

try to knock off at least 100% of the price as they tend to jack up the price up to 200% of the items!

you will see many floating stores that abound the tributaries going to the tonle sap lake and at tonle sap lake at the villages of Chnong Keas and Kampong Pluk. These stores are usually for the locals and are rather small and they sell mostly domestic stuffs like local food, local snack, local junk foods, beers, wines, cigarettes, rices and any other items you need. like the other houses along the tributaries and at the tonle sap lake, they have bamboo floaters that serve to move the structures during the wet season when the tonle sap lake rises exponentially. they are smaller than the tourist stores in the floating village. You can take pictures of them while cruising the tributaries and at the tonle sap lake.

What to buy: assorted local stuffs like food, cigarattes, rice, fish, dry goods and more

What to pay: not a dent on your wallet

like in other major tourism areas, Chnong Keas floating village and the nearby Kompong Pluk Floating village and the boat terminal of the Tonle Sap Tours has a many souvenir shops but they are not as numerous as the assorted souvenir shops located all around the Huge Angkor Complex and in Siem Reap, the novelty of the souvenir shops here is that they are floating in water but they virtually have the same prices and the same kinds of merchandise as the ones in Siem Reap and Angkor Complex so Haggling is a must when buying items here.

What to buy: any souvenir item that you want like refrigerator magnets, shot glasses, key chains, Angkor Wat books, maps, wooden carvings, laterite carvings, ladies bags, crocodile leather goods (they grow crocodiles here hence they have many crocodile leather products), snake wine and more

What to pay: more expensive if you don't haggle!

try to knock off at least 100% of the price as they tend to jack up the price up to 200% of the items!

    Shopping at the water

Everything is floating in and around the Tonle Sap Lake. Not only the houses and dwellings, but also the local shops. During our trip from Chong Kneas to Battambang we saw several shops. Most shops were selling the daily household needs and food.

Important for the living and transporting at the water is also the gasoline for the boats. We saw several selling points along our route.

We didn't see a floating market, but some small boats, floating between the houses as mobile shops with fresh vegetables, fruits and other stuff.
