Going to Siem Reap, coming from Phnom Penh or Battamabang or the other way round take you chance by taking a boat or the ferry, crossing the wetlands of lake Tonle Sap.

It is the perfect combination of travelling in the country at a relaxed way and watching at the wonderful world of the daily life at the water and the unique natural phenomenon of the the lake and the wetlands around.

You can take the fast ferry of about 3 hours, but if you have the time take a slower boat. We took the slower boat to Battambang. It took us about 8 hours, but we had one of the most fascinating days of our stay in Cambodia.

The boat had a roof to protect us against the sun. We had to bring our own water, drinks, snacks and food.

Jac Stands In Front of

Ok, this was no gondola ride through the waters of Venice, but we paid a premium price of US$15 per person to have the entire boat to ourselves. Mine, mine! All mine!!! Haahaahaa!

So it was really me and Jac, together with my driver cum guide, the boatman and his two helpers on this boat that was made to seat about 20. The entire trip was arranged by our English-speaking driver, Thara, who helped us to plan for the entire three days when we hired him.

He took great pains to explain all that he knew about Chong Khneas, and even if in truth, I've been flocked dry of my money, I still feel that he is one of the most sincere and caring driver that I'd had. Ever.

The speed boat fron Phnom Penh to Siem Reap takes 6 hours. It leaves the dock of the city at 7.00. Bring water and food for the trip, there“s nothing on the boat. You can travel outside, great views of the villages.

Whether taking a private tour, a group tour or simply back packing, this is the main boat station going to the tonle sap lake.

The boat station is run by the local cooperative where there is a main big boat station house with the ticket buying station and some souvenir shops and food stalls. If you are not part of a tour package, the price of a 2 hour boat tour to the floating village including boat ride is $ 20 per person if less than 10 people in a boat or $ 15 if more than ten.

the boats are all made of wood and have different sizes for different tour group sizes, the trip takes about 30 minutes from the boat station to tonle sap lake and th Chnong Kneas Floating Village and a further 10 minutes to Kampong Pluk (vietnamese floating village). The seats are wooden chairs and you must have some sun block and some eye shades to deflect the heat. The tour takes two hours and goes around the floating village and then to a big floating souvenir station with alligator farm inside then goes back to the boat station.

be sure to tip the driver at least $ 1 per person.

Cycling to Tonle Sap

The distance of Tonle Sap to Seam Reab is only 16 kms, if you are confidence enaugh, rent a bicycle for only US$1.00/day.

Swiming at Tonle Sap

I mean if you are too confident about yourself, you can try this, swiming from and side of Tonle Sap to the destination you may want to go.

From Penom Penh to Seam Reab or the other way round.

Tom is Cruisng?

I have no idea to explain this photo as you can see the kid using his own method to cross the lake to the opposite site.

A Smart Guy is crossing

Just wonder if this kid's name is Tom, then I should explain this as Tom Cruise.

Slow down your boat, other wise, Tom Cruise will be sunk.

Boat Quay

Ferry from Phnom Penh or boat from other floating village meets here, the only 'harbour' in the area.
