Stalls / Street Vendor: Snakey Beer

by edachsund Updated Dec 31, 2002

Favorite Dish: I will never try this type of food. It caught my attantion when I wandering about to look for a local food at the street vendor near the old market at Siem Reap. It was night and dark.
I dont believed that was fried snake. Usually local Khmer will be having this type of food with local beer as a drink. the reason why it is because they want it to get more 'kick' of the snake taste. uarghh..........
    disgusting for me!

I managed to shot a picture of it, when one guy telling me that was actually a fried snake eaten with beer to get more 'kick'!

Samampheap Restaurant: I wish I could remember what I ordered!

    by herzog63 Written Oct 7, 2002

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

For our last night meal in Siem Reap I decided to upgrade the surroundings (cost wise). So we went to the Samapheap Restaurant. It had white linen table cloths! I am a food stall eater so this was quite an upgrade.

Favorite Dish: I ordered chicken for my son as he is not as intereted in eating anything to crazy. I asked them to bring me something that local Khmers might order for a special occasion. And Man, it was DELICOUS. It had alot of weeds, spices and some kind of meat. I don't know the name now. I asked them but they told me in Khmer and I didn't write it down. Oh well it's a memory of my taste buds now. We spent about $6 for both of us total and we ate alot!

There is no question about it! Soup Dragon in Siem Reap! Food is excellent and price is cheap! Staff are friendly and they serve pretty cheap beer too!
Very reasonable prices and good quality food!!!! No doubt about it!

Favorite Dish: Definitely Chicken Noodle Soup! This is only available for breakfast, but you can still try asking for it during lunch time. Costs only US$0.70! It's simply delicious!

Most of the restaurant: Too oily for me

by vuzu Written Dec 29, 2005

Most of the food in Cambodia are very oily. So, if you're on a healthy diet, request less oil for your meal.

In Old Market area several children are making this egg pancake. They add butter and chocolate paste then roll it in a paper before handing to you.

There are many kinds of snack food vendors walking around selling their food. Probably not all of them are up to western standards for cleanliness. But the food tastes great!!
