Khmer Family restaurant: Good food

by yukisanto

We had breakfast and dinner here on different days. Dishes on average cost USD3-4, and portions are ok and sometimes generous. I had the Amok Fish for dinner, and although the rice was little (compared to 2 scoops at Red Piano), the dish was pretty nice. I had Amok Fish at Red Piano too, and I would say the Amok Fish here taste like laksa with too much coconut milk, while the one at Red Piano tastes like assam laksa. Cocktails were buy 2 get 1 free @USD3.5 per glass. But there was of course, considerably less alchohol than we expected. Popular joint at Pub street.

Great Indian

by stedeb

This restaurant was not on pub street but on the corner of the street near the market, the street beside it runs down to pub street and has loads of other restaurants. Sorry I never took a pic and can't remember the name unfortunately but there are usually kids trying to sell books just outisde and down the side street. Always expect to pay a little more for Indian. Naan bread all made and baked in the tandoori oven that is out the front of the restaurant, it takes at least 30 mins but well worth the wait. Not to mention the food was very good. My one and the only complaint was the meat in my Rogan Josh was a little tough but the gravy was to die for especially with their garlic naan!!! We were a group of 6 big eaters so we bought 6 serves each of the plain and garlic Naan half would of been more than sufficient we went away feeling very contented.

Temple Bar: Try upstairs for free cultural show

by stedeb

Reading Lonely Planet we expected "pub street" to be noisy and very like lots of places we have visited in Thailand. How wrong we ate upstairs choosing the $US5pp local buffet and we were also treated to a free cultural show. The also have a menu to choose from if you dont fancy the buffet.

Ssiem Reap Cafe: Cheap and good food.

by stedeb

The food here is very good with a big variety and cheap we ate here for lunch several time. It is away form the main street so no atmosphere for dinner with so many other options. it is a good option if you are staying on the main airport rd. Curry fried rive is delicious

BB Kings: Try the Khmer Barby

by 43beckos

Dont let appearances put you off this place, this was one of the nicest meals I have ever had in Asia. Frequented by locals, the waiters were asking who had told us to come there ( see my entry on The Anchor Bar ).We were confused when the meal was described as a bbq with soup at the end, but if you have ever had a khmer BBQ, you will know what I mean. Basically you chose slivers of marinated meat and fish and some vegetables from the buffet and then take them back to your table, where the waiter brings a bowl of hot coals, and what looks like an upside down collander with a reservoir around the bottom, which he places over the coals. The meat and vegetables are placed on the side of the "collander" to cook, so the juices from them slide down into the reservoir. Then boiling water is poured into the reservoir and nooodles added along with some pak choi and spring onions, you then eat the...

Local restaurant: Cambodian Curry "Amok"

by woosoowei

"Amok" is available in all local restaurants, there's no where you can hide from it :). Good thing is it is a must try in siem reab, and it's easy to get around the town, and you will sure find it in your hotel's cafe There's pork amok, fish amok, chicken amok, beef amok, etc. my favourite is chicken amok. It's a type of curry which is sweeter and has richer coconut milk fragrance. Very different from malaysian and Thai curry which is more spicy and oily.

Sreet Vendor at Old Market: Egg about to Hatch?

by woosoowei

These are eggs about to hatch, cooked by heating over a charcoal stove. I found this sold near the streets at siem reap town by old lady in the evening. Some cooked eggs are 1/2 peeled, bird feather is visible.Dare to try?

Khmer Kitchen: Authentic Khmer food

by juliewong

A little restaurant tucked at a corner of a narrow lane. Was recommended by people who have been there. Took us a while to find this restaurant by foot and glad we did as it was around dinner time, and we were hungry. Food was pretty good and each of us ordered a dish and shared among ourselves. Each dish came with steam white rice too. I can't remember the exact location of the restaurant but you could ask around the local shop owners for direction. I remembered we passed by somewhere around the "Red Piano" bar. Green vegetables fried with prawns and chillie.

Le Tigre Restaurant: Good Food & Reasonable Price at Pub Street

by ricardoz

Nice place to unwind after visiting the temples, cheap beer great local & Thai food.I did try a local delicacy - Amok Trei which is Coconut Fish Curry served on coconut. Pls refer to second picture below. I had it at local foodstall near Angkor, taste is really good however price is consider expensive almost the same price if you were to dine in a restaurant in Siem Reap town. I guess the pricing is really meant for tourists... The spicy Thai/local dish
