The vendors are everywhere ...: They'll find you ...

by shrimp56

While in Siem Reap and at the temples you will run into MANY vendors trying to sell you post cards, scarves or other local crafts. They are relentless. Given the prices [inexpensive] and the economy -- buying a couple sets of postcards and a few scarves won't break you and may help them. [Although they seem to work for subcontractors so who knows ...]These are traditional Khmer cotton scarves. The green one I bought at Angkor Wat for $1 US -- the checked one was given to each of us by our tour company. Scarves, wooden instruments ....See my Phnom Penh page for how to wear these scarves. Everything is inexpensive.

Markets of SR

by stedeb

There are a couple of pretty good markets in SR. The old market sells just about everyhting in the way of souvenirs and is rather pleasant to walk around. The only problem is the beggars that manage to place themselves stragegically outside whichever exit you take.We went to the newer markets back along the main road in the direction of the temples. Centre Market-Psar Kundah. I picked up a couple of Apsara ladies in stone (resign realy) they look just like the real thing and cost me $US16 for both. I know the Lonely Planet discourages people from purchasing these type of thing in case the locals start to pillage the temples I was very cautious in my buying. There are lots of bargains to be had from chop sticks through to rubbings of the temples. This is a great place to pick up some souvenirs. Anything to do with the temples small stone tablet that cost only a couple of $US, books also...

outside most temples: Angkor kids

by jmmorgan

Outside most of the temples there are scores of, often very young, children. They all have something to sell. Sometimes a guidebook (photocopied), or a musical instrument, or a t-shirt or just about anything they think tourists might want. But most of all they sell postcards.Take a few minutes to talk with them, there English is quite good, and buy a little something. They have everything. The price is always $1

Psar Chaa: More Shops & Choices Than PHN

by so_alex

It worthy to carry the souvenirs with you even you havent visited Phnom Penh as Psar Chaa offers much choices than any market in Phnom Penh. You are not only visiting the souvenir shop but the local shops such as: Dry Food store and wet market. More choices especially for Carving Replica and the famous head of King Jayarvarman. Orginal Price Less 25-30%. 50% Off, sorry, no way.Compare the price among different booths, choose the lowest and start bargaining.

Lot's of Film Shops: Buying film

by herzog63

You can easily pick up slide and print film in Siem Reap. There are many shops to choose from. And they are easy to find. You will have to bargain though. Even in a shop that looks like you wouldn't need to. Especially if you're buying any quantity. You can sure eat up alot of film in Cambodia!!

Local shops outside Siem Reap: Palm Sugar

by muratkorman

The locals prepare palm sugar in this area. It is very sweet and it takes quite some effort to get the sugar out of the palm. It is a good souvenir to take back home. Palm Sugar 3 USD per kg
