  • Highly Recommended Car Driver In Siem Reap

by magte Written Jul 12, 2009

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I highly recommend any traveller to use the service of this local driver of mine. His name is Mr Dara Rann. To my opinion and a few days experienced with him, I find that he is very honest, reliable and a quiet man. He drove an old Totota Camry. A very responsible and careful driver. He knows every corner and tries to avoid every pothole on the road. Never encouraged you to do shopping to earn commission unless you requested yourself. Even if you don't buy anything, it is OK with him.

His daily rate inclusive of petrol is USD25/day if just around Angkor Wat complex or USD35/day to go further location such as Tonle Sap river or Phnom Kulen. He is also a licensed tour guide at a rate of USD25/day.

The only problem with him is he tried not to drive further than what he is supposed to. I think it is because he tried to conserve as much car petrol as possible. Petrol in Cambodia is very expensive. So pay him extra if you wants to go further or tip him well for his good services.

To my opinion, it is unnecessary to hire him as tour guide. Read your way through and by asking him questions. In that way, you will save by half. He can be contacted at his H/P# +855-12-784448 or email ranndara1980@yahoo.com. He doesn't read his email everyday. Give him a few days to respond.

    Siem Reap Airways

    by Cathy&Gary Written Mar 21, 2009

We flew from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap with Siem Reap Airways who are owned by Bangkok Airways.

The cost was US$75 one way and takes 50 minutes.

I was a bit wary about this flight as I have never been on a plane like this before.

Well it was probably one of the smoothest flights ever, no problems at all, I actually enjoyed it!

    Mekong Express Bus

    by Cathy&Gary Updated Mar 21, 2009

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

We really enjoyed the bus trip from Siem Reap to Phnom Penh.
Cost then was $9 per ticket.

Mekong Express buses are clean, have a toilet, television set (with Mr Bean playing!) and a guide who points out interesting facts along the way.

You are also supplied with a bottle of water and a snack pak with 3 delicious pastries.

The bus leaves Siem Reap at 8am and arrives in Phnom Penh about 5 hours later.

(Back in 1992 when Gary did this trip he drove there and the drive one way took one and a half days due to the shocking condition of the roads!!).

Apparently Mekong Express drivers have a reputation for being safe and our driver was great, no close calls at all. (Well not close for Cambodia!!).

There is a 30 - 40 minute break at Kompong Thom right opposie Arunas Restaurant.

So go for a walk and stretch your legs, have a look around, buy a drink, or maybe a snack of fried tarantulas.

We have friends who have done this trip before and they suggested we book 2 seats each so we could stretch out a bit.

Great advise, but we sure got some funny looks!! But it was lovely not being squashed up next to someone and because we had paid for 2 seats each we both were given 2 snack pacs and 2 drinks each.

The camera came out a lot on this bus trip as each truck we saw seemed to be loaded higher and higher.

Highly recommend doing the bus trip at least one way!!

    Tuk-Tuk

    by Bob_Shan Written Jan 3, 2009

Tuk-Tuk is the most convenient, economy choice of transportation. With $10 you can charter one for a day going around Angkor archeology park, or Tonle Sap (lake). $15 if you want to go a bit further, e.g., more than 15km distance. You only pay at the end of the day.

I recommend a local driver, his name is "Oad" (by pronunciation) kind and honest guy, drives very safe. His mobile is +855 92 742 921

    Tuk -tuk to Angkor wat

To be taken around the angkor wat park for the day, should cost $10. The driver will drop you off and wait for you to return, you can take as long as you want. To go to Banteay srei, will cost $20. It is worth visiting, has nice carvings.

    Rent a Car & Driver for 20 $ a day

by XKuger Written Sep 18, 2002

Its best to rent a driver and a car for the entire day for US$ 20, its the best deal as some of the drivers also double as decent tour guides. However if you need a tour guide then get one too.

Unless you are a back packer and want to do it yourself, you are better off with this option as 20$ is bloody cheap for the whole day.
