GETTING FROM "A" ANGKOR TO "B" BAR

by wanderingbilly

GETTING AROUND SIEM REAP IS QUICK FUN AND CHEAP.A TUK-TUK IS THE BEST WAY OF GETTING FROM YOUR HOTEL TO THE RESTAURANTS AND CLUBS OF BAR STREET.THESE LITTLE MACHINES ARE ALSO AN IDEAL WAY FOR GETTING AROUND THE ANGKOR COMPLEX.. THEY ARE OPEN TO THE ELEMENTS, SO ON A HOT DAY THEY PROVIDE NATURAL AIR-CON. FOR THE MORE FAR OUT TEMPLES AND PLACES SUCH AS KBAL SPEAN IT IS BEST IF YOU GO THERE BY CAR. KBAL SPEAN IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE, GETTING OUT THERE MEANS A ROAD TRIP OVER VERY BUMPY AND VERY DUSTY ROADS, SO BEING IN A CAR SAVES YOU FROM A THROAT FULL OF SAND AND DUST. PLUS GOING THERE BY TUK-TUK WOULD TAKE MUCH MUCH LONGER.WHEN YOU ARRIVE IN SIEM REAP YOU WILL HAVE NO PROBLEM GETTING A DRIVER/GUIDE TO TAKE YOU AROUND THE TEMPLES..THEY WILL FIND YOU !!JUST MAKE SURE YOU AGREE A PRICE AND THAT THEY HAVE BOTH ACCESS TO A TUK-TUK AND A CAR..YOUR HOTEL WILL IN MOST CASES BE ABLE TO RECOMMEND A...

Take a Tuk-Tuk

by arianne_1504

In Cambodia, the term tuk-tuk is used to refer to a motorcycle with a cabin attached to the rear. Cambodian cities have a much lower volume of automobile traffic than Thai cities, and tuk-tuks are still the most common form of urban transport. At the temple complex of Angkor, tuk-tuks provide a convenient form of transport around the complex for tourists. One can hire a tuk-tuk and driver by the day.Siem Reap tuk-tuks are generally of the style of motorcycle and trailer. Phnom Penh tuk-tuks are by contrast one piece. They are the front end of a motorcycle comprising of steering, tank and engine/gearbox with a covered tray mounted at the back. The power is transferred by chain to an axle mounted to the modified rear fork which drives the two rear wheels. Suspended upon the rear fork is an open cabin with an in-line seat on each side. This arrangement can carry 6 people at ease, with their...

Angkor Wat touring driver and guide

by rcgasia

We found Mr. Marom through the internet, where he was recommended as a driver/guide for the temple areas and we arranged with him, via email prior to arrival, to meet at our hotel in SR. He proved to be the best guide we could have hoped for. With his moto-taxi (kind of a carriage hitched to the back of a motorcyle) he took us everywhere. We purchased the 7-day Angkor Wat pass, and each day Mr. Marom developed a great itinerary that avoided the crowds and helped us get to nearly every temple around. His fee was a reasonable $15/day, and we also used him to go to outlying temples outside of Angkor Wat area. His taxi number is 0061, and we saw some numbers up in the 5000's, so he is one of the originals, having been a driver for 12 years. He has an excellent grasp of English and we had many in-depth discussions about current Cambodian politics and events. Yes, you could get air-condtioned...

Tuk -tuk to Angkor wat

by balhannah

To be taken around the angkor wat park for the day, should cost $10. The driver will drop you off and wait for you to return, you can take as long as you want. To go to Banteay srei, will cost $20. It is worth visiting, has nice carvings.

Mr. Han - My Tuk-Tuk driver

by ricardoz

I found him in a website and turn out to be a good choice. My American colleague who went to Siem Reap after me said only praises about him. He speaks quite decent English but he is not a tourguide...anyway you are not paying for tourguide price ok.Highly reliable and very reasonable price. You can write to him or just call him to pick you up from the airport. If you enjoy the outdoor and cool breeze, then tuk-tuk will be great...but you need to bear with the dust. Rain? No problem, the tuk-tuk can be zipped up so you won't get wet!

From Siem Reap to Phnom Penh

by Penelope4

I booked my bus trip through The Rosy Guest House where I stayed. The trip back to Phnom Penh cost me only US$ 8 which included a sandwich, a bottled water and a fresh small packed towelette. The bus is air-conditioned too. The trip took more than 5 hours with 2 brief stops. I guess you can book also your trip from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap through their office in PP. Address is 125Eo, Sisowath Blvd. and phone number is 092 429 505.

English-speaking Tuk-tuk driver

by Penelope4

I hired the Tuk-tuk driver who patiently waited for me when I arrived by boat to Siem Reap. When I learned that he can not speak English I thought that sign language would do. However, one has to know that it takes time to visit the temples or markets and if the driver doesn't understand you, it is a bit of a problem. Somehow, Seila, also a friendly Cambodian Tuk-tuk driver, came along and getting around became easier. He drove me to Kbal Spean and he kindly accompanied me up the mountain/waterfalls.

Angkor Express

by anoum

We took a bus of the Angkor Express from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. Cost US$6 per person only. The bus was clean and comfy. There is a tv. They played documentary of Angkor Wat, followed by a movie. It is a 2-level bus where passengers are on level 2 while the driver and luggage etc are below. There is a toilet in level 1 too.A bottle of drinking water and a sandwich are distributed to passengers soon after the journey starts. It takes 6 hrs to get to Phnom Penh. It is a non-stop bus i.e. it doesn't stop to pick up or drop passengers along the way although during our trip, it stopped once to let a family get down somewhere along the way. It also stops twice for passengers to get a meal and drink. You can buy the ticket from any agent. The one who sold us the tickets also made arrangement for a van from the bus company to pick us up from our guest house without extra charges.Upon arrival at...

Getting around by car

by yukisanto

We made arrangements with our hostel for a driver to fetch us from the airport, and that driver became our driver for the next 4 days. Each day was USD20, except for a trip furrther Kbal splean and banteay samre which cost us extra USD15. But it was worth it though, since that trip was really travelling on dirt road and it's over an hr journey. That journey definitely has to be done by a car - if you take a cyclo, you'll get free 'foundation' on your face. A car also means air-con and faster speed, and it was a little luxury after running all over the place under the hot sun and dust. our driver was nice, but only a driver. We came up with our own itinerary and got him to bring us there. Many a time, he would suggest a place only for us to decide to go against the norm and go somewhere else instead. But it paid off, since we didn't have to squeeze with the tour groups at the same time at...

Excellent moto / tuk tuk driver

by lpc68

I hired this great moto driver and would highly recommend him to anyone who visits Siem Reap. He also has a tuk tuk for those that need one. He was a really nice guy and i felt very safe riding with him as he didnt go too fast and was always alert and honking his horn whenever a pedetrian or another moto or vehicle was close. i was a bit nervous because on my way to Sihanoukville i passed a moto accident and saw a young woman that had apparently died in the accident. my bus must have passed about 15 minutes after it happened.Anyway... he also took me to all the major sites and even sites i didn't plan on going to but were on the way anyway. he was also very patient and knew alot about the area. sort of "Rainman" like with hotels and prices! He suggested a lot of things to do and see but never was pushy (as in to get a commission)here are his details:Mr. Oung Vebol...
