Riding Joy

by woeiyann

If you have longer time in Siem Reap and it is not raining season, renting a bicycle to go around town and even to Angkor would be fun. Forget about it if you are the type that must carry an umbrella on sunny day. It is hot and sweaty but it is good way of seeing local lifestyles plus good exercise. I did'nt get to try this as I was there for 2 days and took a speed boat ride to Phomn Penh after visiting Siem Reap.Look for next chapter on transportation to Phomn Penh

Tuk tuk

by woeiyann

Taking tuk tuk is great way moving around Siem Reap. Not only it is inexpensive , one gets to experience the scents of the place--dust and bumpy roads to some of the ruined temples. I always find that plain and comfort journey don't give long lasting memory. I love to basic means of transport like taking tuk-tuk, city bus ride, cycling and walking. It is by these we get closer peep into the life of the locals. Of course, I do not reject luxury, but it is not the priority. I would rather save extra money for more adventurous trips or shopping. The tip is if you are a budget travellers who are putting up in a guesthouse and want to save money on transportation-DON"T GET THE TUK-TUK FROM THE GUESTHOUSE which they will ask you day and night if you need one. Simply because it will cost much more. You can ask driver from outside for a pick up ( for the early sunrise in Angkor Wat)but you have...

From HK to Siem Reap

by bpacker

You can fly direct to Siem Reap fro Hong Kong on Siem Reap Airways. Yes, it's the silly looking plane you see in the photo - even though Cambodia is a land-locked country, pretty fish and coral decorate the plane. There's four weekly scheduled flights connecting Hong Kong and Siem Reap - Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. HK->SR5:15pm SR->HK10:00am Return flights from Siem Reap will fly via Phnom Penh so it takes a little longer. You can book your air tickets from the nifty little site below.

From Singapore to Siem Reap

by bpacker

Silkair flies direct from Singapore to Siem Reap. A return ticket cost about S$610 but I lucked out and purchase one for about half the price. Look out for special offers on the website below.Silkair: A luxury 'budget' airlines owned by Singapore Airlines. It's certainly the BEST budget airlines around since service is top-notched - you can actually preorder your meal (more than 5 to choose from ) before your flight and sip a sauvignon blanc on board.I'm proud to say this since I'm Singaporean, haha!

Taxi

by Emile72

Taxi's or hotel busses (we used the latter) transport you from the airport to the hotel, which should max. take about 20-30 min. Siem Reap is not a place where there are constant traffic jams, so you can plan quite well. We also had a car from the hotel touring us 1 day around Angkor. 30USD. You can obviously be a lot cheaper, by bike, tuk tuk or taxi from the street. I don't know why we choose this, but it was a hot day, so got some good airco, got easy rides to the bathroom (they do exist in Angkor, but are not frequently spread) and in case it should rain, you had a good place to shelter.

Eat Before You Fly

by 43beckos

If you have a long wait before your flight from Siam Reap airport, then make sure you eat before going to the airport, as there is only one food outlet which runs out of stock of basic things ( including coffee) quite early in the day.We had a couple of hours delay and could only get 3 Panninis between 4 of us and no hot drinks ( had to make do with beer ) .

Personal driver in Siem Reap

by thuyronald

My husband and I used a personal driver recommended by Molly Malone's guesthouse on our last trip to Siem Reap this January 2007. He took us everywhere we wanted to go and then a few more places that we didn't realize were so beautiful. We hired him for two days and it was great. We didn't use a guide this time. His name is Mr. Chang. His English and personality were excellent. We highly recommend him. His email is chang_angkor@yahoo.com, & telephone #(855) 12 766 123.Although he took us in his AC car, he also offers tuk tuk as well as motobike depending on your needs.IF you use him, tell him Hi from Thuy & Ron

Getting Around Siem Reap / Angkor

by janelley

Forget about buses and trains when in Siem Reap / Angkor. There are only 4 ways to get around: chauffered car, motorcyle, bicycle, and the local tuktuk. Thailand also has tuktuks but the Cambodian one looks slightly different. Think horse carriage except that it's a motorcycle pulling the carriage. You can get around to any point in town for USD1 per person. You can just flag any down from the street. Rates may be different if you're going to charter them to take you around the Angkor Wat temple complex. My preferred way to get around is to rent a car and driver. For USD25 (they accept US dollars as payment), you have a driver and car to drive you around for the entire day. You can be flexible with your itinerary. The service even comes with ice cold mineral water after a long hot trek through one of the ancient temples! To hire a car, just inquire with any of the cabbies at the airport...

Cambodian Tuk-Tuk

by i-s-a

It is areat experience to ride one. It looks like a hybrid between Thai tuktuk and Philippine calesa. A good alternative to a Camry taxi as Tuktuk is half cheaper (about USD10-12 for a day rent). The downside is that in Sieam Reap, it is very hot and the roads are very dusty...passengers will have to bear the heat and the dust when riding one.
