Best Way to Get Around Siem Reap

by shelley4242

The best way to get around Siem Reap and to see Angkor Wat is by hiring a tuk-tuk driver named Sovane. He is honest, reliable, a safe driver and english-speaking. His personal story is incredible and he is also very knowledgeable about all the temples. He will pick you up as early as you would like (4:45am to see the sunrise!) and take you to any temple you would like to see (even Banteay Srei --- 90 minutes from Siem Reap on tuk-tuk). His rates are very cheap -- $10/day!After having some bad experiences with tuk-tuk and moto drivers, getting around Angkor Wat was safe, easy and interesting with Sovane. Contact him and he'll pick you up at the airport or bus station, take you anywhere in Siem Reap and take you around the temples. SUY SOVANNE Tel: 012 390 613 Email: sovanne2005@yahoo.com

Travel with tuk tuk

the benefits of travelling with Tuk tuk - you have both free hand to take picture and read the guide.- you are protected from rain - you can put your stuff(bags, tripod, drinking water) in the vehicleThe disadvantage compare to motobike is - Tuk tuk is slow. You can cycle to the temples within the mini circuit. but you won't see much because most of the time has been spent on cycling.

If you do get the boat to Phnom Penh...take lunch

by thedouglas

You don't actually get told this, but you can't buy food on the boat to Phnom Penh - and, of course, there aren't any stops. You can buy water, beer, and softdrink on the boat - but no food! There were people at the Tonle Sap selling fruit, baguettes etc., but plan ahead and go self contained. Our pick-up for the boat was earlier than the kitchen opened in our guesthouse, and we had to get food the night before, and some roadside baguettes on the way to the boat.

To Poipet

by cancian

Take a taxi from SR to Poipet.35 US$ and 3 hours .Arrange through your guesthouse or better trought the tuk tuk man who bring to Angkor during your stay in Siem Reap. Leave at 6.00am so, cross the border to Thailand is very easy and you can find the bus to Bangkok in the morning (about 11.00am) and arrive in early afternoon..........Taxi let you 1km before the border. There, you wait the FREE SHUTTLE BUS to border area.

Tuk Tuk

by chiabh

The tuk tuk (yes, the same name as in Thailand) is a 4-seater motor convenace that is a popular mode of transport in siem reap... It is every where in town - in the town centre, outside restaurants, at the market, outside the hotels and cruising along the street...The normal fare within the town limits is USD1. A whole-day rental, mainly to the Angkor Wat Historical Park is now about USD10... due mainly to the higher petrol price (again, Cambodia is affected as well)... The operator is very reliable and we have ours for the entire 3 days when we were in siem reap...

Nothing is for nothing!

by thedouglas

There are a lot of eager beavers grabbing your luggage when you get to the Tonle Sap - to put your belongings on the feeder boat, and then the boat for the trip. Be aware that you will be expected to pay for BOTH luggage transfers! Some tourists were quite indignant when approached on the boat by the boys who had taken their luggage - largely because they weren't asked or given an option - and they probably expected it to be part of the service.

Boat to Phnom Penh

by thedouglas

The boat we took was an old bunboat, converted to this passenger status, for the 7 hour trip to Phnom Penh. The day started off quite inefficiently, when the boat taking us from the Tonle Sap to the transport boat was stuck in the mud, due to overloading - on - off - on again, and then half out - half in went on for more than an hour. Not good with my sick stomach at the time! When we got going, and were delivered to the boat, we discovered that this mode of transport - airconditioned - was not quite what we expected. I am short, but there was very little legroom, the aircon was not on, and the only option was to sit on the roof, where sunburn was guaranteed - and it was very crowded up there anyway. Other problem for me was that I am short - and I couldn't see at window level - and the windows were not clear - so my hopes of a scenic riverboat ride were not realised. We had not taken a...

Transport to Temples around Siem Reap

by woosoowei

I would suggest u to rent the van with driver offered by your hotel. They are more responsive and helpful. We rented a 6 passenger van to get around (van per day cost USD20, USD25 or USD35) subject to the distance u wanted to go. If divided by 6 passenger, it cost about the same as Tuk Tuk. Furthermore, air cond is essential : ) under the hot sun. Hiring Tuk Tuk (motorcycle of 2 to 4 passenger capacity) cost about 50% lesser than the van. It is cheaper but must take note that roads at Siem Reap are bumpy and very dusty. Van is faster, comfortable and safer mode of transport and not expose to dusty air during your journey to temples. Souvenirs bought can be safely placed in the car, but Tuk Tuk do not have this privileges.

Air Asia Direct Flight KL-Siem Reap

by woosoowei

I've took Air Asia promotion of free tickets to Siem Reap, costs only RM225 per person for a return direct flight from Kuala Lumpur to Siem Reap, took about 2 hours. Remember to save USD25 CASH for departure, this is not included in your airfare. Applicable for all airlines. For ppl who visited Phomh Penh first it's a great experience to travel to Siem Reap by speed boat, cruise through Tonle Sap, the largest freshwater lake in South East Asia. You'll see the villagers who lives with the water and get the feeling of true Kampuchean life. If you travel by other means and wish to visit here, the boat ride cost is USD10 per person.
