This place was a good find in Stung Treng, which I stumbled on more or less by accident. I had a slightly upset stomach so didn't want to risk anything too spicy and this seemed to be one of the few places doing a "Western" menu.
The owner is a very friendly guy who speaks excellent English due to having worked in the tourist industry in the capital for many years. His wife is charming but the absolute highlight is his five year old daughter, a delightfully precocious little thing who approached me without any reticence and demanded in excellent English, "Can you spell red?" Well, yes I can, so I did. You read that right. Whilst I had been previously mooching about Lao giving impromptu English classes here and there (see seperate tips), I was now being quizzed on my English spelling by a five year old. Very odd and huge fun.
However, I suspect you want to hear about the food. The menu comprises local dishes, Khmer dishes and a smattering of Indian food. I opted for a fairly safe burger which was excellent. I had breakfast the next day which was equally good.
As well as the food, the owner also doubles as a travel agent, and arranged my onward bus ticket for me. He has a good selection of tourist literature as well.
Recommended.
Favorite Dish: Cheseburger, it was excellent.

You may be slightly bemused by the title of this tip but if you have read my intoductory page to Stung Treng you will be aware that the placesingularly failed to impress me, as did this restaurant. I went in there predominantly because it had an English restaurant and on my first day in the ocuntry I didn't fancy negtotiating the language in a locals place. The first waitress who served me was friendly, in stark contrast to a ocuple of others I dealt with who were brusque to the point of rudeness.
Despite the bilingual menu complete with photos, they still managed to bring me the wrong meal. By this time I had lost the will to argue and just ate it anyway. It was pleasant enough, some form of dried beef. The place seemed to be frequented about equally by foreigners and Westerners who maybe know something here that I don't. I really would give this place a miss.
Favorite Dish: The erroneous meal of dried beef was adequate.
