Tonle Sap : Kids Play Time

by bkoon

Along the Tonle Sap, you will most probably noticed that the most common activity done by the kids is playing in the water. This groups of kids were playing in the water when our boat passed by. They were very friendly too, wavaing vigourously at us. Aren't they cute and lovable?

Tonle Sap : Fishing Nets

by bkoon

I the villages, almost every family owns a fishing net. It looks hand-made. How it functions is that the net be submerged into the water and when the fishermen will shift up the pulley-driven huge net when ready. And bingo! The fishes are caught inside the net.

Tonle Sap : Community Centre

by bkoon

There is even a floating community library cum activity centre for the villagers in one of the villages. Basically, the centre is a place where the villagers hang out at. Even the windows are so colourful. Cool!

Tonle Sap : School Children

by bkoon

There are many many children in Cambodia. And as our boat passed by the school, excited children start to wava at us vigourously. These children were so innocent and they were so curious. Well, kept waving at us. I felt like joining them in their lesson then.

Tonle Sap : Village School

by bkoon

This was the floating village school. There were classrooms, library, etc in the school. The students go to school by their family boat, which is the regular mode of transport for people staying in the villages at Tonle Sap.The picture is underexposed. Hope u can figure it that the school is in the middle of the river.

Tonle Sap : A Floating Village

by bkoon

Along the way, you will see many floating villages. This is a typical floating house. The people staying in these villages are usually fishermen. For your information, I read that the Tonle Sap offers abundant fishes and hence the Cambodian people can rely on Tonle Sap to make a living, either by rearing seafood or fishing for them.

Traditional Dances

by aukjejetty

In Angkor you can see Apsara dancers carved on the walls, they are the dancers of the Cambodian celestial dancers from the legendary myth.Cambodian Classical Dance or Cambodia has been performed for over a thousand years. Most of the Classical dances are like Western plays. It is a show that tells stories usually taken from Ramayana. Traditionly women play the roles of king, queen, prince, princess, and demon. The monkey (Hanuman) is always played by men. The costumes, headdresses, masks, movements and gestures identify the characters.I am sure they perform these dances for tourists in several places. If you are interested you should ask the guesthouse/ hotel you are staying for info.

wedding day

by lninasia

Dressed in their best, colorful silks. Friends and family gather for a "quick" wedding ceremony...only lasted about 15 minutes.Every guest was given a fruit basket that was placed prior on their chair. This ceremony was at the next door guest house at 8am!

Teach the Monks

by D_Shannon

Cambodians are friendly people, and the monks are no exception. They are often fascinated by foreigners and are excited about the opportunity to practice their English. During their 'off hours' monks often go to the temples of Ankor - not to pray, but to find conversation partners!

War is over

by SirRichard

Cambodia has been in war since 1993. Now is a calm peaceful country trying to recover from this, but there are still signs of the past times, as this billboard I found on the way to Siem Reap telling the cambodians to deliver all the weapons to the State. There are even land mines in some remote regions up in the mountains, but I didn't find any warning signs of mines at the touristic places I visited...If you wanna know more about Cambodian wars take a look at:
