People walking around in a park along with Mekong by Pakistaniguy If you are not one of the Disco-goer then you should do what the ordinary khmer does in the evenings. Especially on weekends or on holidays there are lots and lots of people which come to the Mekong River bank in front of the Grand Palace and stroll around. Some do picnic, others sit holding hands. There are street hawkers from which they eat while their children play in the garden near by. Atleast you should try this once !
In the evenings there is always a little mild breeze so if u are sensitive to cold then wear warm clothes otherwise always wear full jeans and full sleeves shirt because of mosquitos ! FCC by Jasen71 The FCC is the up market place to drink and where you'll find the NGO's watering of an evening. Located on the Sisowath Quay... The drink here are a little more expensive, but the decor and surrounding are worth it....lol

another shot of the Silver Pagoda grounds by richiecdisc We only ventured out one night while in Phnom Penh, to meet a fellow traveler we had met on the Mekong Delta trip that brought us to the Cambodian capital. The Pink Elephant was an okay travelers’ pub with Western foods and drinks and though cheaper than back home, it’s not as cheap as the places locals go to. It’s also on the Riverfront and this is the most touristy part of town. He was staying there so it was fine for him but it was a long walk from the more budget accommodation area. The roads were dark and seemed dangerous. I would rather go to a local draft beer place that serves local dishes too. Or just stay in your room and watch a movie on HBO and get ready for an early photo shoot the next morning. ;) Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingAddress: Sisowath QuayDirections: In the touristy Riverfront area.

The entrance by SirRichard One of the few "western-style" clubs in PP. The area around is not very inviting, as there is not much public lighting and is rather dark... so the place is really in "the heart of Darkness"!! LOL Of course the name comes from the Conrad's novel, later adapted to cinema by Coppola as "Apocalypse now". It opens at 19 and stays open after midnight... Good music. Sisowath from the FCCC by pmarshuk Along the banks of the Tonle Sap at its junction with The Mekong is the area known as Sisowath Quay. This is where a lot of bars and restaurants for visitors are based many with balconies and terraces overlooking the river. On the other side of the road along the river bank is a grassy area where lots of Cambodians meet for picnics or other family gatherings. Among the best known bars is the FCCC (Foreign Correspondants Club of Cambodia). Other good bar/restaurants are the Garden Bar, the Riverside, the Pink Elephant and the Rising Sun (for that English food you're bound to be missing so much). Also here is the Happy Herb Pizza place - don't ask what the happy herb is!! Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingAddress: Sisowath Quay

Just before sundown head for the FCC club on sisowath quay. Take a seat near the balcony, grab an Angkor Beer and settle down to watch the sunset and the people promenading on sisowath quay. Magic

Meeting at the Rivers by aukjejetty In the evening when the sun is about to set, people gather at the river, there are three rivers that meet here; Tonle Sap, Mekong and Bassac rivers. A lot families arrive on motorbike, they carry the whole family on one bike. You can watch lovers, families and groups of men all gathering at the riverbank. Leave a Comment Theme: Family Spot

The Elephant Bar at the Raffles Le Royal Hotel is one of the nicest bars I have visited. The bar itself is cosy, elegant and full of the ambience of yesteryear. There are frescos on the upper walls of elephant scenes and the red/gold tones of the furnishings and ambient lighting really add warmth and style. The staff and service are excellent, as you'd expect at a 5 star hotel. You are served with complementary tapioca chips with tomato salsa and peanuts with your drinks, but you can order food from the menu which is all delicious. I really liked the samosas and chicken satay.
The dress code is casual, but I would keep it to a certain standard, as it is a 5 star hotel. Leave a Comment

3 years of living in Phnom Penh, not a city I would have thought would have an exciting nightlife but although it's small it is vibrant. Heres'a run down on some of the nightlife in Phnom Penh. Phnom Penh's Nightlife is spread across the city, there are many small hole in the wall bars and a few bigger bars. The nightlife is split into Asian and Western bars and dance clubs. The western bars and clubs fit into the middle of the market. Some of the bigger Asian bars and clubs are 4 to 5 times bigger than the biggest Western bars and clubs. There are many small bars aimed at the western market, people buy bars and most do little with them. They are usually devoid of customers most of the time but with rents being so cheap it's not much more expensive than having an apartment here. If you are looking for the nightlife in Phnom Penh you can pickup a copy of the Pocket Guide or the Bayon Pearnik. Alternatively you can just go to the bars I do. Firstly Phnom Penh's nightlife doesn't really start until about 10:30 pm. Prior to that it's just drinking in some of the smaller bars. So here's my guide to the nightlife in Phnom Penh, now I should mention I like looking at beautiful women so I tend to visit that style of bar. Phnom Penh Nightlife - Early Evening. Early evening 6pm to 9pm visit DV8, OneZeroFour, Green Vespa or Shanghai. Now some of you might ask why I don't go to Sharkies, basically it's a money thing, all the bars I go to early in the evening have $1 beers. The late night bars like Martinis and Heart of Darkness have $1.50 beers. However Sharkies does have a lot of freelance girls in the bar and has very good food and they do have drink specials on different days.
