The market at night by SirRichard This huge building with a central dome is the central market. Here U can find books, jewelry, watches, flowers, stationery... each item has its own zone, come, have a look and bargain!! The other main market of the city is the russian market, so called because some years ago, most of the goods of Cambodia came from the USSR. After the collapse of the empire, it kept its name, though now there are not many russian goods there... Leave a Comment Theme: Local Craft

the buzzing honeycomb of the Central Market by richiecdisc Phnom Penh’s Psar Thmei (Central Market) is a bustling place to just wander about and do some shopping. You can find most anything you might need and if not looking to buy, it’s a fun place to just people watch.
The best part for us was checking out the local foods. It’s a great place to stock up on supplies for a bus journey too! Try the savory pancakes and a host of local beverages at prices you can’t refuse (generally around 10-20 cents). by randhorn Why not have your shoes made especially for you? In Phnom Penh we visited a shoemakers shop. From our descriptions of the shoes we wanted, the shoemaker made a sketch and took measurements of our feet. Then we chose material and soles. A few days later we could pick up our handmade shoes.
This was a cheap experience! For a pair of sandals and a pair of "dress shoes" I paid around $20 (in Nov 2002). Leave a Comment Theme: ShoesDirections: Near the Toul Sleng Memorial

Inside a market by SirRichard Besides the obvious shopping activity, there are many reasons to visit the markets in PP. Here you can have a close look to the everyday life and activity, get some nice pics and taste the delicious local food. Beware of pickpockets, as in any crowded public place. The main ones are Psar Thmei and the Russian market, though there are many little ones around town too, as well as a big amount of street stalls of clothes, food... Leave a Comment Theme: Local Craft

by shrimp56 You will find a nice range of Cambodian crafts at this shop. Prices are still very reasonable. The traditional cotton scarves I paid $1 for at Angkor Wat were $2 here and the young woman in the shop was kind enough to model for me :) Leave a Comment Theme: Local Craft

This market has been known by its English name since 1980s, probably because there were many Russians and Russian goods alike then at this covered market. Here you'll lots of tourist buying gifts and souvenirs. There is also a large section where you can try local dishes or buy a refreshment.
There are clothes, shoes, silks (sampots) and handbags, woodcarvings, compact discs, antiques or pottery. Unlike Bangkok, the clothes with brandnames are real ones here. They are manufactured in Cambodia, but due to some (mostly minor) mistake not good enough for export to the western countries. For a tiny amount of money you can get for example good quality Colombia zip-off pants. Also backpacks are a good deal at this market!
Don't buy anything without bargaining! Sometimes you can bargain more than 50% off. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: Ph 440 & Ph 163Directions: A covered market south to Mao Tse Toung Boulevard.

An Art Deco style yellow building in the centre of town. The centre is a domed structure with arms radiating from it. There are also plenty of stalls outside of the main building. This is a great place to come and browse for a couple of hours and if there is anything that you need I would say it is probably on sale here. Leave a Comment Theme: Food and Drink

More commonly referred by foreigners as Russian market. It was where Russians shopped during the 1980s. Best place in town for souvenirs and clothes shopping. It has a large range of real and fake antiquities, including miniature Buddhas, wood carvings, betel-nut boxes, silk, silver jewellery, musical instruments and so on. Bargain hard as thousands of tourists pass through here each month. This is also the market where all the western clothing made in garment factories around Phnom Penh turns up. Popular brands include Gap, Colombia, Calvin Klein, Quicksilver, Aigle and Next but more are coming to Cambodia all the time. Also available are inexpensive DVDs, CDs and computer programmes, as well as a host of other goodies. This is the one market all visitors should come to at least once during a trip to Phnom Penh.
There is a good range of trousers, skirts, shirts, T-shirts, boxer shorts and shoes.
All at around 10% of the price paid back home. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: South of Mao Tse Toung BoulevardPhone: NilDirections: South of Mao Tse Toung Boulevard.Website: Nil Other Contact: Nil

There are a hundred and one stalls to shhop in here, and there are some pretty interesting stalls as well.. of course you can browse the fake brand name clothes stalls, and pirate cd and dvd shops, or if you like a bit of blood then the chicken stall where you can see the star of the nights menu meet his end... and it's not for the faint hearted.. with all stalls one can haggle the prices down..A hearty laugh and a firm price offer normal works.. if you ain't sure on the power of your haggling then watch the monty python film 'the life of brian' where you can see the art of street haggling in action.

I really like the Russian Markets, though they can be very hot and stifling. You can buy everything you can think of here and the best part is clothing is in western sizes. They also now have a huge selection of winter clothing, jackets, jeans etc. This is the place to buy all your pirated software, movies and cds etc. They were all $2 a disc. Wander in further and you will find all the material stalls, it’s a great selection and most of it is around $2 - $3 a metre. Go a bit further and you will find the tailors. I bought 6 metres of fabric for $8, and then paid $16 to have 2 dresses made. (Copied from a dress I took with me). Picked them up 3 days later and they were perfect! My very favorite shop here is a jewellery shop called Mrs Muny's (she has a little stall opposite the small enclosed air-conditioned jewellery shop). There’s no bargaining here, her prices are good to start with and she comes highly recommended from people who live in Phnom Penh. I ended up having my ring made here and it’s beautiful, a thick gold band with 7 small diamonds set in it. I paid US$250 for the ring (I have since had it valued at $1000 Australian. I also bought a lovely blue topaz pendant for US$120 which has been valued at $300 Australian. So I’m very happy with those purchases. There’s also a great place to have an icy cold drink here, they make the best ice coffees and freshly squeezed orange juice in Phnom Penh. The shop use to be inside at the back of the markets but has now moved to outside next to the small car park. Sometimes it can get a little overbearing here with kids following you around fanning you to cool you off (for a price of course) Then there’s the soldier selling greeting cards, the man after you with books, the burns lady selling postcards. (We have met the last 3 people a few times now and they are lovely people who are trying to earn a living). A nice thing that happened on one of our trips was that our friend said rather than giving them money etc, she buys them all lunch. So off we all go with about 10 kids and adults following us. Everyone sits down, and then they all have a cold drink and a good lunch. All for a cost of just under $10. One little boy asked for a plastic bag and he put half his food into it to take home for his little brother. Very Touching.
DVD etc $2 Men’s Khmer Shirts $6 Ladies Khmer Shirts $3 T-Shirts (Diesel, Billabong etc) I bought 3 for $5 Scarves/Kramas $1 Wrap around skirt/pants $5 Jeans $5 Wooden Buddha (Large) $13 Large silk bedspreads/tablecloths $6 Angkor Watt Car Shades $3 Material $2 - $3 metre Singlet’s $2.50 Click here for lots more shopping prices and photos including handbags., Theme: OtherAddress: Corner of Street 163 and Street 444
