After the hard-won battle and our tuktuk driver took us to our hotel - dispatched with a tip - he asked if we would like to have a tour around Phnom Penh the next day. Yep - he seemed like a good driver, very passable English, and polite etc. - pick you up at 8.30am. We realised by 9.00am that he wasn't coming - better offer. Did not affect our holiday, but reminded us of the unreliability of these sorts of arrangements. I guess these guys work on the bird in the hand principal - and I don't really blame them.
So - we tended to make arrangements on the hop after that, relying on the bird in our hand!

You can book a Tuk-tuk for a day, for about USD 7-8.
I book mine for USD 7, from 11am till 8.30pm
Bring a map, should the driver, what is your plan for the day and where you want to go. Then ask him how much, most likely he will start from USD 20-30. Tell him is too high and ask him again, then he will ask you how much you want? Then said USD 5, sure he will said no, reply cannot too low 15. Then you end up with some where USD 10, then you walk away, by said Thank you, I can only pay you USD 7 or 8 (up to you), if not no deal.
It will be nice, if you bring alone your driver to have lunch or dinner with you. :-)

For anyone thinking of taking a tuk tuk to the Killing Fields, don't do it. I'm not trying to put the poor souls out of business, but a recent trip there was the bumpiest, most crazy ride and although the road doesn't look that bad, I don't recommend the pain.
We were hanging on, trying to stop our teeth from slamming together and to keep our bums on the seat. Those little tuk tuks are quite well-made but we were shaking about like dice in a can. Terrible road. Although it only goes on for 20 minutes or so, we watched with jealousy as people cruised past on mororbikes. I would recommend taking a motorbike, even if there are 2 of you.
Also, take a Kroma - one of those scarfs the Cambodians wear. Throughout my trip it was one of the best purchases I made - perfect for protecting yourself from wind, rain, pollution, dust and dirt, especially good for dusty roads around Cambodia.
Tuk Tuk should cost around 6-8US not sure about a motorbike

Be firm when negotitating your price PRIOR to getting in your vehicle. We negotiated a price for the Russian Market but the driver kepy insisting we mean tthe Central Market wheich is where he took us. We refused to move until he took us to the Russian Market h ethen got a bad case of the sulks and disappeared never to be seen again. He thought we were idiots we could see the Central market from our hotel!!!

The US dollar is the preferred currency in Phnom Penh. In fact in 3 days in Cambodia I didn't touch any Riel at all. What would happen is you pay in US dollars and if you are owed and money back less than $1. it arrives as riel. [In Vietnam I got used to paying in both dollars and dong in the same transaction!]

Tuk-tuks are named for the sound they make -- "tuk-tuk". The ones in Phnom Penh were motorcycles with little cabins attached for passengers. We found this driver when a motorbike driver asked if we wanted a tuk-tuk -- so he called his cousin! And here he is :)
