If you visit Angkor Temples you will surely be all day around the place, going from one temple to another. Going back to Siem Reap for lunch is not practical, as you will lose some precious time, so a good alternative is to have a light lunch in one of the many food stalls you will find around the temples.

There are usually 3 or 4 together, offering practically the same, so just sit in the terrace of the 1st one and wait for the waiter to come and show you the menu.

Is a good place to enjoy a delicious green coconut juice in the middle of the journey!

The owner of this establishment owns several other hotels/restaurants throughout Germany.
Of Cambodian nationality, he is married to a German wife and is currently splitting his time between Germany and Cambodia.
The gracious owner has made personalized service an art form and makes sure his employees attend to the finest of details from pouring of wine/beer to the way in which food is presented.
The Ambiance is authentic, beautiful and quite relaxed while at same time offering a sense of higher class .
You may also choose to sit in the beautifully landscaped courtyard for drinks. breakfast or lunch.

Try the "Hot Pot". A stew pot which is brought sizzling hot to your table containing a flavorful stew of chicken or beef, local vegetables and spices. Accompanied with rice, truly delicious. We also ordered a fresh catch of the day (equally good) but realized the hot pot would've been sufficient for the two of us.

  • Heng Lim Resaturant is situated opposite where I stayed, the Chhaya Hotel. Heng Lim serves delicious Chinese-Khmer food. The restuarant is Chinese-run. I had a hearty lunch there for only USD$2.00. They do have an English menu. Heng Lim opens as early as 6am in the morning and early patrons usually have their black coffee and "you tiao" there.

My favourite dishes there are :
    - Sour Soup
    - Fried Beef

    My rice
    by SirRichard
On the way to Siem Reap I stopped at Sisophon to change pick ups. As it was about lunch time, I went into a road restaurant by the bus station.
I thought they would be used to tourists, as most of the pick ups stop here. But I guess people just stay here the minimum to change cars and head the quickest possible to Siem Reap.
As I entered the place, the people there started looking at me and gossiping. The menu was, obviously, in cambodian, so I just pointed to the dish of the table behind me, which happened to be a delicious rice with veggies... and an Angkor Beer, of course!

  • Apsara Dance - Cambodia
    Apsara Dance
    by bkoon
It was a nice restaurant which served a wide buffet spread. Apsara Dance performances were staged for 1.5-2 hours. What I dislike about this restaurant was that at the entrance, when I asked for the price, they quoted USD5 but in the end, it turned out to be USD12. I remembered repeating myself a few times when he quoted such a low cost. The market rate was USD11 though at other restaurants.

Note : Driver gets to eat for free. Do your driver a favour.

Rows of Eateries Outside Baphuon: Lousy but No Choice

  • The food was lousy but we do not have a choice as we still needed to continue our tour. It was not feasible for us to get back to town to have our lunch and come back to Angkor area.

Hence, I would suggest to you who will be travelling there to bing your own food.

My Belated Birthday Treat from Soo Wee

We had lunch here. It was a heavy lunch. The portions were huge and we shared the dishes and ate them with rice.

    The service was good too.

Dish 1 : Chicken with Lemongrass & Basil
Lemongrass was sliced into fine shallot-like pieces. Fried with chicken and lots of basil leaves. Delicious.

Dish 2 : Coconut Milk Soup with Fish and Pineapple
Sliced fish cooked with yellow ginger, coconut milk and pineapple. Also very delicious.

    Dish 3 : Sweet & Sour Pork
Pork stir-fried with ketchup, pineapple and tomatoes.

Cambodian dining takes a decided backseat to neighboring Thailand and Vietnam, but there are some interesting dishes to try just the same. Phnom Penh offers the best variety and though you run the risk of getting some belly aches in the process, the adventurous will be rewarded for their efforts. The Cambodians also dish up their share of Western dishes with varying degrees of success. Hey, you can’t blame them for trying and many tourists find comfort in eating something familiar in places so far from home. Still, market food should be tried and local dishes sought out to truly savor the flavor of Cambodia. A nice in between are the beach cafes in Sihanoukville, on the southeast coast.

You can get heaping plates of noodles with local shrimp for a pittance compared to back home, though perhaps a bit overpriced by local standards. But you are on the beach, and that carries a premium everywhere in the world. Wash it down with a nice frosty Angkor beer and life becomes grander with each moment.

  • Directions: These cafes run the length of Sihanoukville's beach. The further you go down the beach, the less crowded and probably the cheaper too.

One of the best ways to calm your thirst in Cambodia is drinking those huge green coconuts that you will find in many street food stalls, specially around the main tourist attractions. They open them just for you with a huge knife and you drink it with a straw. When you finish drinking the water, you can ask the vendor to cut it in 2 and you can eat the "flesh" with a spoon... delicious!!
