available at all roadside stalls: Fully formed duck eggs?

by cigarettebarbie

Fully formed duck eggs. You can see the shape of its skeleton, its head and its body and everything. Kinda uncivilised, but was yummy anyway. Eaten with salt... expect to pay 1000 or 2000riel each. If you eat it at the big field in front of the royal palace, facing the tonlesap river, you get a free mat too! Many locals hang out there every night, so it was great to hobnob with locals and watch them laugh at us squealing at the sight of a fully-formed embryo.

Claypot Steamboat

by cigarettebarbie

We had a sumptous meal at a roadside claypot steamboat place. It was located at an area where there were three of such restaurants - two served shabushabu-like meals (grilled meat and stuff. typical jap/korean fare), and the third, claypot steamboat. We paid something like 7-10USD for three people. Very satisfying!

FCC is very well-known and well-attended. I saw a lot of well-dressed Western expats dining there. While dressing up is not a must, FCC felt to me like a place out of Cambodia. I did not sample their food as we had already eaten. The ambience was quite OK, go to the top level if you want a good view. Prices are on the high-side, and you can get a similar view at cheaper prices at the bar just across the road and facing FCC. Many of the bars along the road have Happy Hour timings (before 8pm), and Angkor beer for 50cents. Therefore, unless you are really out to treat yourself, don't go to FCC.

street vendor cart: Sample the Water Beetles!

by Bali-Babe

In order to experience the local cuisine in Cambodia......try an authentic snack that crawls up on the banks of the river in Siem Reap. They have four legs and are quite crunchy! The street vendor will instruct you if you are daring enough to try it: Water Beetles! You will need to tear off the wings first, and then a crunchy part that runs along it's belly, but then you are good to go..... and there isn't a squirt in the middle. The taste is all crunchy and salty, and comes in two different varieties. I found large black beetles, and smaller brown ones. I only tried the black one and it wasn't half bad!

any by the beach: Best seafood you can have!

by jeep2105

A must when visiting Sihanoukville is to try the local seafood. It is honestly some of the best seafood I've had in my life, particularly the fish. Even my friend who ususally is extremely picky with fish (her father's a fisherman) was impressed. It doesn't really matter which restaurant you go to I think, we went to several on Serendipity Beach and I can't really say whose seafood was the best, they were all so good. Best thing is to have the fish that's the specialty on their menu, delicious!

Angkor Palm: Simply Yummy Khmer Food

by codyukie

The menu displayed at their entrance seemed attractive, that triggered us to give it a try. As we enter the restaurant we were impressed by the deco that looked so classy yet with a local touch. The boss and serving staffs are so friendly, we enjoyed chatting with them while waiting for our food. We ordered their speciality Amok Fish set and another set (can't remember the name) and both turned out delicious and reasonably-priced.Sad that we had no time to go back again :( Boss mentioned they are having video show and massage in the night time. Hate to miss it!

Mandalay Inn's Restaurant: Asian Delights!

by XLH

First of all, i should qualify this tip by saying we stayed at this guesthouse, hence there was familiarity with the 'management'. Also, the style of their food includes Khmer, Myanmar, Chinese and also western. Usually, the dish comes with both meat, vegetables, soup and a plate of rice costing USD2 - 3. The food is usually flavourful, with the fragrance of local herbs and spices. But the most 'important' tip i can give, is that you should try to order their Myanmar-style food for it seems to come with a larger portion of meat (that's my personal observtion)! All in all, i think they give good value for money! A must try is the "Fish Amok", which is a boneless fish dish cooked in coconut milk. Lots of other unrecognizable veges in the soup too. Also, since we stayed there, their provided breakfast of egg omelette tastes yummy too... You can ask for it plain or with tomatoes, and i'm...

various: Roadside stalls

by lemondrop

If you're game, there are many roadside (and attraction-side) foodstalls. Serving up good food, usually chicken, eggs, vegatables, rice and such. They're a cheap and convenient option. All dishes seem to cost $1 everywhere you go ( US dollars are always appreciated ). It's usually run by a woman, and her kids are most often running about...or standing around staring at you!

I dont know: Street food

Breakfast on the street. I had breakfast here. It is bread stuffed with vegetable and meat. The shop is near to my hotel. Too many local people stop to buy food at this shop so I thought this shop is popular ;)
