Try the Exotic

by peitsing

When in Rome, do as the Romans... The same applies in Cambodia... Savour their local delicacy...... in our case, fried crickets...Below, the step-by-step guide:1. Throw it into your mouth, or delicately leave it on your tongue2. open your mouth wide for picture taking 3. close your mouth and the instinctive reaction is to "grimace"4. bite into it and the crunchy feeling and sound can be heard by all5. taste the juice which oozes out6. SWALLOW!!!!hahahahhahaThe locals would be more than happy to share their supply of fried exotics with you free!!! The entertainment they get from tourists' reactions is more than enough to cover their costs...

yummy baguettes on the street..

by peitsing

Baguettes seem to be a great preference in cambodia and can be found everywhere.... Other than a fillin breakfast, it can also be brought along in your trips to the many temples in and around siam reap!Be greeted by ladies carrying huge tray ladden with warm steaming baguettes, on their heads, each morningAh... Bliss!!!!

Street Vendors.....

by peitsing

If the stalls look reasonably clean, do take some time to try out their local delicacies... or in some cases, modified or foreign-influenced.Baguettes with an assortment of ham and pickles fillings are simply yummy and reasonably priced as well..

F.C.C. Phnom Penh: Open Air Dining overlooking the Mekong

by travelswithsteve

Overlooking the main rivers the Foreign Correspondants Club (or FCC as everyone calls it and knows it by) is a grat place to eat and drink.Opens from 07.00 AM until midnight (ish) you can now book a room there and buy a T-shirt.A sort of French colonial feel, high ceilings and open views - The setting is just what you expect. The added benefit is that EVERY tuk tuk, scooter and driver knows where it is.If you like it, theres also one up at Angkor too.

N/A: Khmer cuisine

by AndreSTGT

Khmer food resembles Thai food, just less spicy and generally less creative in the use of spices. It is not as outstanding as the cuisine of Vietnam or Thailand, but it's never difficult to find tasty food.

Bopha Angkor Hotel Restaurant: Don't miss the Hot Pot!

by Homanded

The owner of this establishment owns several other hotels/restaurants throughout Germany.Of Cambodian nationality, he is married to a German wife and is currently splitting his time between Germany and Cambodia. The gracious owner has made personalized service an art form and makes sure his employees attend to the finest of details from pouring of wine/beer to the way in which food is presented. The Ambiance is authentic, beautiful and quite relaxed while at same time offering a sense of higher class . You may also choose to sit in the beautifully landscaped courtyard for drinks. breakfast or lunch. Try the "Hot Pot". A stew pot which is brought sizzling hot to your table containing a flavorful stew of chicken or beef, local vegetables and spices. Accompanied with rice, truly delicious. We also ordered a fresh catch of the day (equally good) but realized the hot pot would've been...

You pick em: Beach cafes offer more than just good food

by richiecdisc

Cambodian dining takes a decided backseat to neighboring Thailand and Vietnam, but there are some interesting dishes to try just the same. Phnom Penh offers the best variety and though you run the risk of getting some belly aches in the process, the adventurous will be rewarded for their efforts. The Cambodians also dish up their share of Western dishes with varying degrees of success. Hey, you can’t blame them for trying and many tourists find comfort in eating something familiar in places so far from home. Still, market food should be tried and local dishes sought out to truly savor the flavor of Cambodia. A nice in between are the beach cafes in Sihanoukville, on the southeast coast. You can get heaping plates of noodles with local shrimp for a pittance compared to back home, though perhaps a bit overpriced by local standards. But you are on the beach, and that carries a premium...

Dead Fish Tower Inn: Very bizarre place to eat in Siem Reap

by largerama

Mixture of good Thai and Cambodian food but its the place and its atmosphere that make it. They have a pit of crocodiles in the restaurant ( no joke). You can feed them. Thers a little hairdressing salon also at the back and the building looks like its been built by many different people or added to as they went along. You can sit on normal tables or on little pads on low tables. Traditional live music every night. Go find out for yourself. All good but their motto is: "we don't serve dog, cat, rat, or worm!"

Dead Fish restaurant: Siem Reap Eclectic interiour eat and gaze

by prikje

In Siem Reap, 5 minute walk from the old market on the main road you find this fantastic restaurant. Not that the food is that great but the interiour sure is!You don't believe your eyes of all the things they have stashed all around. The food is good but not so spicy as the local kitchen.Only tourist come here so you miss the local food experience. The whacky wooden multi-level Dead Fish features a bar and crocodile pit. The design is excellent and the crocodile pit you have to jump to get to the bathroom is very inspired. There are Khmer dances and music in the evening.Totally eclectic atmosphere Nice food.Fantastic interiour.Totally eclectic atmospherefree Khmer dances and music for you entertainment.
