The Red Piano Bar: luxurious restaurant with great balcony view

by prikje

The Red Piano Bar is owned by a Belgium cook who married a Cambodian. It's a classy and excellent restaurant with a great balcony view.Prices are a littler higher than other restaurants but therefor you get a clean and great place. They make a lot of merchandise on Angelina Jolie who ate there while filming "Tomb Raider"...but only for those who care and are willing to pay the extra price for an Angelina Cocktail go ahead. They have a variety of europian dishes and of course the Khmer dishes which are less spicy then somewhere else.Excellent food but you don't get the Cambodian local experience .

Amok Chicken or Amok Fish

by Maximilian21

When i was in cambodia i wanted to eat somehting typically Cambodian. The waiter suggested Amok chicken. I had no idea what i was ordering but i was licking my plate at the end. It was absolutely delicious since then practially all my meals in cambodia where something amok, either fish or chicken. The dish uses coconut spices but i must say im not expert in cuisine or recipes. I just like to eat the thing and this i liked. so go and try Amok chicken. for the recipe check out the website

Sam's: Tasty Curries in Sihanoukville

by AndreSTGT

This basic hole-in-the-wall place on Weather Station Hill above Victory Beach has some of the best local curries in Cambodia.A huge portion (enough for two) costs less than 2$.2005 update : this place still exists, but no Khmer curries on the menu anymore, plenty of western and thai food though. The times have changed. It's still cheap, but with so many great dining opportunities on offer in Sihanoukville nowadays, i wouldn't recommend it anymore.

Can't remember: A restaurant where you ... DRINK !!! (Mondolkiri)

by skydivefred

on the way to Mondukiri city, 7 kms away from the town, at the bottom of a hill and in a sharp bend, nearby a river (honestly you can't miss it, there is nothing there but this place) , there is a big "RESTAURANT" sign. But there you don't eat........ ........you DRINK a very special cambodian speciaity, the name of which I don't know.It consists in a jar in which they mix different cereals and rice, everything being compacted.and sealed in the recipient. You have to order this if you are a bunch of friends cos it is something to share as you can se on the photo.you open it, you add water and you wait at least 20 minutes to have a strong alcohol taste. The longer you wait, the stronger in alcohol the drink gets.Real fun to try if you meet some nice local people and only cambodian people go there.

Easy speaking café Bar: Forget it !! (Siem Reap)

by skydivefred

Unfriendly, ***ty food from nest door Ankhor What? Bar. Bloody expensive. I felt I was there just to give money and fatten some f.... idiot western owner. Uncooked fries, you could actually count how many fries, they were so scarce in the plate.

Ankhor what ? Bar: A rip off ?? (Siem Reap)

by skydivefred

I did not actually sit at the Ankhor what but next door ( see other restaurant tip) . Therefore I would not say anything about the atmosphrer there. However, the food I ate next door actually came from there: It was very expensive, very small quatity of food and not good at all. FORGET IT !!!!

Tip Photo
Street Food: Go local as usual !!!

by skydivefred

This is a tip you can find in many other destination but I feel the need to emphasize this and encourage people to go for this.Cheap, deicious, healthy, NOT POISONOUS (!) and filling. Go for those wheel stalls that you can find anywhere in the streets. All of them .

Tiger Bar, Shangri-La lakeside: BAR/RESTAURANT

by Maximilian21

We met the owner of this bar/restuarant/guesthouse on a night out. His name is Shan and hes a really great guy. He 26 and is a master chef from Sri Lanka. He been living in Cambodia for about 6 years . When you go to Phomn Penh you must go to his resturant, there is this infectious bohemien vibe about. He also throws some good parties.

Drinking "Buckets"

by Maximilian21

In Phnom Penh there are many bars which sells buckets of drink. These things are beutiful and cheap if you want to have a big night. You just down one of these things and it should sufice you alcohol consumption for that night, trust me its more than enough. There about $4 for vodka mixed with redbull and a few other juices i think. Its a bout a litre of drink

Sa: (pronounced soh): very good place in phnom penh

by Pouic

The food is a most-interesting combination of Cambodian and French recipes and flavours. The quality is impeccable and certainly the best restaurant in town. Not to menttion the location that makes it unique: from the roof-top, one has a view on the Royal Palace, the chak tomuk (where the Mekong and Tonle Sap meet) and a few colonial buildings (the restaurant is one of the oldest buildings in Phnom Penh). Having tried most of the dishes, I am at a loss as to which one I prefer! The gazpacho is quite nice indeed...
