Sihanouk... how much do you want to spend?

by saraguev

Well, you will find that Sihanoukville is a very small town with nothing much to do. You will find there beaches... a private and nice one, the Sokha Beach Resort ( a very good hotel, with very good food), or public beaches like Ocheautel Beach (try the Crystal hotel). This beach has bars, and small places to eat. The hotel will advice you in case you want to know other small islands. At the end, everything is decided by your wallet. If you for expensive and quiet, try the Sokha. If you are heading for cheap drinks and some action in the beach try the Crystal Hotel.Same applies for Phonm Penh and Siem Reap. I think that Siem Reap is far better than Phnom Penh in terms of restaurants, pubs, and safety.

ANGKOR WAT & Etc.

by listenandlearn

Here is a photo taken at Angkor Wat. Next to that is a photo we took while on a "tuk-tuk", a mother driving her mopad with all her children behind, in front above and one just squeeze in. have a close look. Quite dangerous but they don't see it that way. Next to that is a photo of a shelf with bottles. These are bottles of gasoline sold to anyone living at a fairly far distance from the gasoline station.

Things To Do Besides the Temples .....

by cafank

This is the title of a great booklet we were given at out hostel and it was so valuable. It is published by The Ministery of Tourism to promote sustainable tourism in Siem Reap. TRY to get a copy - it will give you so much more to do when you are templed out. Suggestions include:Have a meal and/or stay at the Sala Bai Hotel & Restaurant school - help disadvantaged childrenVisit the Krousar Thmey foundation and Tonle Sap. (assisting deprived children). They can supply guides, have blind masseurs for great massages after a day at the temples, and children perform at one of the hotels some evenings.Angkor Hospital for Children - blood donations and volunteers always needed.Visit Rehab Craft Cambodia workshop where training is given to previously unskilled/unemployed.Take a tour with Osmose Conservation Education and EcotourismVisit the Cambodian Land Mine Museum.Visit the Handicap...

Boat Trip Siem Reap to Battambang

by Robmj

This is a great boat trip and one that will allow you to get an insight into rural Cambodia. It is called the most scenic in Cambodia, I'm not sure about that, but it certainly is a great experience. See my travelogue for detail on this trip.Basically, you head along the river through wetlands and past many villages. You get to stop and interact at some, there are many other boats along the river and you will see local fishermen and locals doing their thing. Its a lot of fun.

A disturbing but compulsive place to visit

by cafank

The Tuol Sleng genocide museum I found very confronting and did not really enjoy my visit. But I had to keep wandering through the place being appalled at what had happened to this country such a short time ago.The Khmer Rouge converted a High School converted into a prison and interrogation centre called "Security Prison 21" and from 1975 to 1979, an estimated 17,000 people were imprisoned at here. Although the official reason for their arrest was "espionage," these men may have been viewed by Khmer Rouge leader Pol Pot as potential leaders of a coup against him. In 1979, the prison was uncovered by the invading Vietnamese army. In 1980, the prison was reopened as a historical museum memorializing the actions of the Khmer Rouge regime. Out of an estimated 17,000 people imprisoned at Tuol Sleng, there were only twelve known survivors

Angkor Temples

by Avieira67

Angkor is the heart and soul of the Kingdom of Cambodia, a source of inspiration and national pride to all Khmers as they struggle to rebuild their lives after the years of terror and trauma. The three most important temples at Angkor are: Bayon in the fortified ancient city of ANGKOR THOM, Ta Prohm and the immense Angkor Wat.In Angkor Thom, besides Bayon, I have visited Terrace of Elephants, Terrace of Leper King, Baphuon, Phimeanakas and Preah Palilay. Please, have a look at my page on Siem Reap.

Elephant trek in Angkor Wat

by klmousseau

It's kind of touristy, but take the elephant ride up the hill to watch the sunset. Just get there early and get in line. It's so hot in Cambodia that the ride is a welcome relief. Just watch out for the baboons on top of the hill!
