Boat Ride to Battambang from Siem Reap

by bkoon

The easiest and most convenient way to get to Battambang from Siem Reap is by boat. The villages which you pass along the way will amaze you. The floating fishing villages scattered along Tonle Sap are worth observing as you travel along the river. The ride may be slow at times due to low water levels as the river gets very very narrow at times.Boat tickets can be booked from any guesthouse and hotel. It cost USD$15 per pax.

Don't Make Too Many Plans

by PA68

As is the norm with travelling in this part of the world, you can always expect things to go to plan.I wanted to get a boat from Phnom Penh to Khompong Cham but ended up having to stay in the capital a day longer than intended as the boat wasn't running every day due to a lack of customers. Don't always expect to be able to travel on the day that you want to if heading up the Mekong by boat. When I did get away the journey was made all the more memorable by the fact that the boat broke down about 90 minutes out of Phnom Penh and we sat drifting in the Mekong waiting for the reserve boat to motor up to collect us. Thank goodness for the Canadian guy with the bottle of whiskey. The breakfast of champions!!

Paying Moto Drivers

by PA68

Instead of haggling with moto driver over every single fare I found it a good idea to know the rough fares for a short, medium and long distance journey around town. Your guesthouse will probably be pleased to tell you. That way, when I got off at the other end I would just say "thanks" to the driver, hand him the cash and wander off. I never encountered any problems with drivers working this way. Of course, maybe I was just paying too much already.............

Motodup - Motorcycle Taxi

by bkoon

The most common form of transport in Cambodia's cities and towns. The moto can seat 2 persons. However, if the roads are bumpy, one will have a hard time. Som was the motodup driver here. We paid him USD6 for a half-day tour to as far as the killing fields. Most drivers speak English.

Phnom Penh - Battambang

by chrisvandenbroucke

It takes you hours and hours in dirty buses or smelly shared taxis. Even worse are the pickuptrucks. Don't let them ever persuade you to have a seat in the truck because, before you realise it, you'll be stuck on 20 square centimeters between bags and people.Pay something more to get inside

Battambang to Phnom Penh

by AndreSTGT

If you ask travelers in South-East Asia about the hardest trip on public transport they have ever made, most will probably answer : Poipet to Siem Reap. But this is only because few travelers are stupid enough to do the trip from Battambang to Phnom Penh by pick-up.This seven-hour trip is a nightmare, but at the same time an adventurous opportunity to test one's ability to suffer. From Poipet to Siem Reap there are only tourists on the loading area and you can sit on your luggage, between Battambang and Phnom Penh there are up to eighteen people like cattle in the back of the truck, you have to sit in the blistering heat on the metal edge for hours and hours, always hoping you that don't fall off the vehicle. With every pothole you think that your spine will crack sooner or later. When we arrived in Phnom Penh and checked into our hotel the guy at the reception asked if had just arrived...

Pass the Thai border

by chrisvandenbroucke

Better Road

by venyi

As we always heard the express way in Cambodia is terribly bumpy, well, it's really an unexpected experience when we took the bus from Battambang to Phnom Penh. In spite of the dust in the dry season, the road is not bad at all, in stead, you could really enjoy a nice nap. 4$ per person with aircon, around 5-6 hours.

go by boat

by lninasia

Due to the poor road conditions in Cambodia. I suggest whenever possible take the boat!!! Bring sunscreen and relax on your backpack on the roof of the boat. Great way to view the passing landscape. The inside can be load (the movie/radio is on 10+volume) and crowded. Seems like all the Westerners travel on the roof.
