Sihanoukville to Thailand

by AndreSTGT

The ferry to Koh Kong was the first modern means of transportation Cambodia had to offer. For three hours it cut through high waves at break-neck speed, so that many passengers got very sick. At least we passed some beautiful islands with beaches on the way.

Siem Reap to Battambang

by AndreSTGT

The four-hour boat trip from Siem Reap to Battambang in tiny not very trustworthy speedboats was a real highlight. The trip starts on a lake and via small canals we came to the river that leads to Battambang. On the way we passed several floating villages.

Motorcycle

by herzog63

Here you can see one of the local taxis that we are about to overtake. We didn't use helmets at all when we were on the motorcycles. Most people didn't either. So if you want to use a helmet you may have to search out a place that rents them. I'm sure as more foreigners ask for them more shops will pop up providing them.

Taxi!

by jmmorgan

Taxi's are relatively cheap by European standards in Phnom Penh. Traffic is light so they can get you where you want to be quickly. Drivers are keen for your business and will generally offer to collect you for the return journey if you wish.Drivers can be hired by the hour, day etc at very reasonable prices. The cars we used were fairly new, well maintained and had Air-Con. Drivers english was also of a good standard.

Rent a Motorcycle

by herzog63

Renting a Motorcyle for about $5 US per day is a great way to explore Siem Reap and the outlying areas at your own pace! But this price will depend on your bargaining skills and whether or not you will want the driver to be a guide also. For this price they probably won't be a guide. But they will pick you up at 5:30 am and take you around all day until after sunset. Just make sure you tell them where to wait for you outside some of the bigger Temples such as Angkor Wat. So you know where to look as there are lot's of other drivers waiting for their passengers too.

Here comes fresh meat !

by LeDragon

How to bring fresh meat to towns, under tropical climate, when you don't have freezer trucks. If you didn't notice, they are alive !! I also saw pigs, nice one, around 100 kg, like me :-P. And they were on the same small size type of moto. If anyone tell you they even saw buffalos... better be skeptic !

Bikes in Indochine

by LeDragon

I remember so many old french movies showing herds of people riding their bikes in the former "Indochine" french protectorate. When I entered Cambodia from Thailand, at some point at the end of the afternoon, they were hundreds of them, from one side of the road to the other, likely with their best clothes, likely heading to some parties. The ladies, standing straight on their seat, with the typical khmer scarf around their hat, the men with perfectly white shirt. I knew I was really in "Indochine" at this moment.Nowadays, more and more buy small motorcycles. And you know how bad two strikes motor can be for the air...Herebye, a man bringing a large saw in the Angkor complex.

Moto-taxi to Angkor

by LeDragon

I read somewhere that one is supposed to be with a cambodian to visit the Angkor temples... well as far as I saw, it wasn't true. Still, this is a bit far from the town of Siem Reap, so you need a transportation mean. There are many such moto-taxi guys. They bring you to the temple, tell you its name and to witch door you are.. and wait to bring you to the next temple. It isn't expensive, and they may help you with locals, since they have to know some english. Saltoa, turn around a grumpy me, from the time I was in the city. He was trying to get me as a client to bring mwe to the temples. He also was looking for a commission for getting me to some guesthouse. But, what he offer me was fine, so we agreed, but for 1 restaurant.

Lake Crossing

by into-thin-air

a good way out of Siem Reap is to cross the lake to Battambang, This is Cambodia's second city and worth a look, then it is possible to catch a train back from here to Phnom Penh !! another Experience not to be missed !!!!!!!
